The normal world-oriented state of mind prevents us from letting go of emotional problems as they arise. These distractions invade our mind and constantly impede our concentration. When we recite a mantra this mental agitation spontaneously subsides, leaving our mind at peace. Lama Yeshe

Geshe Thubten Sherab The Four Seals of Buddhism January 5th, 2021 January 12th, 2021 January 19th, 2021... Each class from 6pm-7:30pm US PST This course is presented online via Zoom. The Four Seals represent the core philosophical tenets of Buddhism. They are: 1. All compounded phenomena are impermanent. 2. All contaminated things are suffering. 3. All phenomena are selfless. 4. Nirvana is true peace. As His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama writes: When a Buddhist and a non-Buddhist are differentiated by way of behavior, the difference is whether or not the person takes refuge in the Three Jewels. When they are differentiated by way of the view, the difference is whether or not the person asserts the views which are the four seals testifying to a doctrine’s being the word of the Buddha. Join us as Geshe Thubten Sherab returns to Tse Chen Ling to guide us through the general and finer points of these basic tenets of Buddhism. #tsechenling #fpmt #tibetanbuddhism Geshe Sherab Register here: https://www.tsechenling.org/2021-15-geshe-sherab-the-four-s

Ring Out 2020 & Refresh for 2021! with Ven. Robina Courtin December 31st 6-8pm US PST Presented via Zoom... As we face another challenging year, Ven. Robina Courtin will lead us through the powerful Vajrasattva practice to refresh our minds and set us up with a clean slate. She’ll describe the practice within the framework of the four opponent powers, explaining how each of the four purifies the four ways that karma ripens. For those of us wishing for full enlightenment, sooner than later, this purification practice gets us closer to it. Using the Vajrasattva method to clean up one’s mistakes at year-end will prepare those of us who have a habit of making New Year's resolutions. From this two-hour experience with Ven Robina we will come away with a new perspective on resolutions altogether. According to Buddhism, the path to experiencing greater happiness and well-being and achieving our highest potential involves training the mind, purifying and developing our mind. In this intermediate level course, we will explore the nature of the mind and examine it from various points of view to help us understand the different types of cognition and those we need to further cultivate along the path. This is an FPMT Basic Program course, the first half of the Mind and Cognition module. Emily Hsu completed FPMT's 7-year Master’s Program at Istituto Lama Tsong Khapa in Italy in 2004, a condensed version of the geshe studies curriculum. Starts tomorrow! Join the Bay Area FPMT Centers in a joint celebration of Lhabab DÜchen this Saturday November 7th! One of the four great holy days in the Tibetan calendar, Lhabab Düchen marks the anniversary of Shakyamuni Buddha’s return to Earth after spending three months in the God Realm of Thirty-Three, a higher realm where his mother was reborn after she died shortly after giving him birth. The Buddha traveled to this realm in order to repay her kindness by giving teach...ings to liberate her from samsara. This year Lhabab Düchen falls on November 7th. While gathering together physically in each of our Centers is still beyond reach, all four of the Bay Area FPMT Centers are working together on this day: Tse Chen Ling Center for Tibetan Buddhist Studies will begin this auspicious day by offering the 8 Mahayana Precepts and leading the recitation of the morning practices advised by Lama Zopa Rinpoche. Gyalwa Gyatso (Ocean of Compassion) Buddhist Center will then lead sutra and prayer recitations. Register today! Madhyamaka is Not Nihilism - Dr. Jay L. Garfield November 17th - 6-8pm US PT Ngrjuna (c. 2d C CE) is the founder of the Madhyamaka school of Buddhist philosophy, and easily, after the Buddha himself, the most influential philosopher in the Mahyna Buddhist tradition....
