EFFECTIVE (December 9, 2020) - Thank you for your patience and continued support of California State Parks as we work to limit your risk for exposure to COVID-19 in the outdoors. Currently, the Tijuana Estuary Visitor Center and Border Field State Park remain temporarily closed. As a reminder, Californians are encouraged to avoid road trips and stay close to home, maintain physical distancing, wear a face covering when a physical distance of six feet from others who are not ...from the immediate household members cannot be maintained, and avoid congregating. Everyone has the responsibility to slow down the spread of COVID-19. Here are some additional guidelines for locals visiting the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research reserve: What is open now? The park is open daily from 7 a.m. to sunset for walking, hiking and biking. The following trails are open: River Mouth Trail, Visitor Center Trail, N. and S. McCoy Trails, and Clapper Rail Trail. What is currently closed? Tijuana Estuary Visitor Center. The parking lot and restrooms adjacent to the Tijuana Estuary Visitor Center. Border Field State Park. Visit the park webpage for details. Statewide, California State Parks continues to work with locals on a phased and regionally-driven approach to increase access to state park units where compliance with state and local public health ordinances can be achieved. Even though the department has increased access across the State Park System, the need for Californians to slow the spread of COVID-19 in the outdoors remains critical. For information on statewide current closures and available services, please visit parks.ca.gov/FlattenTheCurve.

Due to the critical need to stop the #COVID19 surge, state campground sites in the San Joaquin and So Cal regions, and some in the Bay Area, will temporarily cl...ose. Affected reservation holders will be contacted by ReserveCalifornia via email. Cancellations and refunds will be automatic. Day use areas in park units currently open to the public will remain open. Please remember to stay local, plan ahead to find out what is open, wear a face covering, practice physical distancing and avoid gatherings with people outside the immediate household. Learn more at www.parks.ca.gov/FlattenTheCurve.

The Fall-Winter Migration brings the majority of the 320 migratory bird species who inhabit the Tijuana Estuary to the calm channels of the salt marsh. Many of those species are waterfowl. The ruddy duck is one of the more easily recognized species. Lunchtime Live will explore what makes the ruddy duck one distinct duck. The reserve and much of the watershed is the ancestral land of the First People, the Kumeyaay. On Indigenous People's Day PBSSocal posted this resource of how to honor indigenous peoples with your family today and everyday.
