Reposting from the California State Indian Museum Today marks 97 years since the signing of the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924. Although it granted citizenship, voting rights were left up to each state, and it wasn't until 1957 that the last state allowed all Native people to vote. June 2nd, 1924 was an important step for Native civil rights, on a path that continues today.
