The act of releasing the lanterns symbolizes letting go of anything negative from the past year and provides light and hope for the upcoming year. Releasing the lanterns is the main event; however, you can also expect lots of food and fireworks, and tourists are welcome to join!

It's also considered one of the clearest, and is both the deepest and oldest lake in the world. During the winter months, the temperature drops dramatically, and the surface of the lake freezes with ice thickness ranging from 1.6 feet to over 6 feet! Due to that thickness, people can drive and walk across the lake to take in the stunning frozen water views.
