Yi Peng is a magnificent Thai tradition celebrated on the full moon of the twelfth lunar month every year. This year, it falls from October 31st to November 1st. During Yi Peng, people release floating lanterns that light up the sky. The act of releasing the lanterns symbolizes letting go of anything negative from the past year and provides light and hope for the upcoming year. Releasing the lanterns is the main event; however, you can also expect lots of food and fireworks, and tourists are welcome to join!

During the winter months, the temperature drops dramatically, and the surface of the lake freezes with ice thickness ranging from 1.6 feet to over 6 feet!
