On June 2nd, TMD shared preliminary network changes with the Rock Region METRO Board as part of the R.I.D.E. 2020 project, a comprehensive reimagining of METRO’s bus system. The proposed plan includes major modifications to the route network with better frequencies, extended service spans throughout the week, expanded Microtransit zones, and more direct routes.

Senior Planner Erin Hogan snapped some photos over the holidays of this RideKC bus stop in the Brookside neighborhood of her hometown of Kansas City, MO. RideKC has announced plans to go fare-free in 2020, sparking further industry conversation around the future of transit fares.

Exciting to see MTS experience its highest ridership growth since 2015! We worked closely with MTS in 2016 to develop the Transit Optimization Plan (TOP) which added $2 million in new service. The TOP recommendations were implemented over the course of 2018 and January 2019, and the recent ridership growth reflects the positive effects of increased 15-minute service and streamlined route alignments. We continue to work closely with MTS on developing a program of projects for Elevate SD 2020, a potential sales tax measure for the November 2020 ballot. Many of the proposed improvements in Elevate SD were built off the recommendations in the TOP. Recent ridership trends suggest that MTS is primed for significant ridership increases if the ballot measure is successful.

TMD is on-site in Little Rock this week kicking off R.I.D.E. 2020, a comprehensive reimagining of Rock Region METRO's bus system.

As part of LA Metro’s NextGen team, TMD has enjoyed developing a draft plan to transform the Metro bus network. It has been incredibly rewarding to be part of such a groundbreaking project, and we are excited that the draft plan will shortly be shared with the public. This plan is the first major overhaul of the Metro bus network in 25 years, and it affects every line in the system. The new network structure is designed to shorten wait times, shorten ride times, and make it easier for residents and visitors to use transit for all trip purposes. We look forward to hearing the response from the community and making refinements to the plan based on these community conversations.
