.I was browsing through my old stuff and came across my Mission Statement. I wrote this over 50 years ago and have tried to adhere it all my life. Admittedly, I've failed to measure up a few times BUT I keep trying. Personal Mission Statement My mission is to give, for giving is what I do best. I will seek to learn, for learning is the basis for growth and growing is the key to living. I will seek first to understand, for understanding is the key to finding value and value... is the basis for respect, decisions and action. I want to help influence the future development of people and organizations. I want to teach my children and others to love and laugh, to learn and grow beyond their current bounds. I will build personal, business and civic relationships by giving frequently in little ways. I see each day as a clean slate, a fresh chance to write a new script and seize new opportunities. I value life’s experiences and seek to learn and grow from each one. In my daily endeavors, I avoid neither risk nor responsibility; nor do I fear failure, only lost opportunity. I seek to maintain balance and harmony in the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of my life. I am a responsible spouse, parent and grandparent; I give priority to these roles. I value differences and view them as strengths. I seek to build complementary win-win relationships with family, friends and business associates. To keep these relationships healthy and to maintain a high level of trust, I make daily deposits in the emotional bank accounts of others. In my profession, I am responsible for results. I act with courage, consideration and discretion. I prefer to let my work speak for me and believe in achieving visibility through productivity. In planning my weeks and days, I focus on key roles and goals to maintain balance and perspective. Knowing that how I perform affects how I feel about myself; I seek to do my best. I value my personal freedom of choice and my rights to exercise that freedom. I am more a product of my decisions than conditions. I do not allow present circumstances or past conditioning to determine my responses to the challenges I face. I choose to focus on the positive, to work within my circle of influence to act directly on things I can do something about and thereby reduce my circle of concern.

LUNCH AND THEN IT IS WINTER READ SLOWLY! You know. . . time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young, just married and embarking on my new life with my mate. Yet in a way, it seems like eons ago, and I wonder where all the years went. I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams. But here it is... the winter of my life and it catches me by surpri...Continue reading

Tuesday, December 18, 2018 Step up By Ralph Marston You're at the bottom of a deep hole, in a foreign country, where you don't speak the language. A man comes along and starts shoveling dirt into the hole.... You yell up to him, asking what he's doing, but he doesn't understand you and you don't understand him. He just keeps on shoveling. So what do you do? You step up. As each fresh mound of dirt lands at the bottom of the hole, you step up on top of it. Dirt is continually shoveled in, the bottom of the hole rises, and by stepping up you rise along with it, until finally you're able to step out of the hole. It doesn't really matter whether that dirt was intended to bury you or to save you. What matters is your response, your choice to step up, to take action and successfully deal with the situation at hand. What situation in your life is throwing dirt on you at the moment? Step up, take whatever's coming at you, and put it to positive use.

Steve Jobs died a billionaire at age 56. This is believed to be his final essay: "I reached the pinnacle of success in the business world. In some others' eyes, my life is the epitome of success. However, aside from work, I have little joy. In the end, my wealth is only a fact of life that I am accustomed to. At this moment, lying on my bed and recalling my life, I realize that all the recognition and wealth that I took so much pride in have paled and become meaningless i...n the face of my death. You can employ someone to drive the car for you, make money for you but you cannot have someone bear your sickness for you. Material things lost can be found or replaced. But there is one thing that can never be found when it's lost - Life. Whichever stage in life you are in right now, with time, you will face the day when the curtain comes down. Treasure love for your family, love for your spouse, love for your friends. Treat yourself well and cherish others. As we grow older, and hopefully wiser, we realize that a $300 or a $30 watch both tell the same time. You will realize that your true inner happiness does not come from the material things of this world. Whether you fly first class or economy, if the plane goes down - you go down with it. Therefore, I hope you realize, when you have mates, buddies and old friends, brothers and sisters, who you chat with, laugh with, talk with, have sing songs with, talk about north-south-east-west or heaven and earth, that is true happiness! Don't educate your children to be rich. Educate them to be happy. So, when they grow up they will know the value of things and not the price. Eat your food as your medicine, otherwise you have to eat medicine as your food. The One who loves you will never leave you for another because, even if there are 100 reasons to give up, he or she will find a reason to hold on. There is a big difference between a human being and being human. Only a few really understand it. You are loved when you are born. You will be loved when you die. In between, you have to manage! The six best doctors in the world are: sunlight, rest, exercise, diet, self-confidence, and friends.

Do it well By Ralph Marston You're putting in the time and doing the work. Challenge yourself to make it your best. Don't search for distractions. Stop daydreaming, stop wishing you were somewhere else.... You are here now, doing this task. Focus on it, put all you have into it, and you'll create something much better than a fleeting daydream. What you have now is the opportunity to do something useful, to make a difference. See the value in it, and stay with the effort. Richness and fulfillment come not from being given the ideal job, but from always giving your best to the job you're doing. See opportunity not in the task itself, but in what you can make of the task. Eventually you'll move on to something else. Yet while you're doing this, do it well, for there's much right now to be gained from your diligence.

Thursday, August 30, 2018 You can do it By Ralph Marston The road is long, the climb is steep. You can do it.... Time is short, the demands are many. You can do it. No one else understands or appreciates all you must go through to get the work done. You can do it anyway, and do it very well. It's lonely, frustrating, tedious, wearisome at times. Yet the more difficult the challenge, the more fulfillment you'll experience by getting it done. You can do it, and what's more, you really want to do it, and must do it. And deep inside, it means the world to you that you are. Feel the depth of challenge, the immensity of opportunity, and the great power of your own intention. You can do it, and you know it will be great.

Tuesday, August 28, 2018 Allow yourself to be By Ralph Marston You are happy only when you allow yourself to be happy. You are happy always when you allow yourself to be happy.... You learn, heal, achieve, and make progress by allowing yourself to do so. You experience peace by allowing peace into every corner of your awareness. The life you allow to unfold within you is the life you live. Let go of need, of striving, of envy, ego, and fear, and allow yourself to allow. You cannot fight your way to fulfillment, and chasing what you seek only pushes it away. Stop fighting, stop chasing, and allow. Allow yourself to be your highest vision of yourself, today. Allow life to be the best you know it can be, now, in this place, in this circumstance. Discard the conditional thinking that falsely imprisons your beautiful spirit. Allow, and live the magnificent truth of all you are.

Wednesday, August 8, 2018 All of it is magic By Ralph Marston Green leaves dance with violet flowers in a gentle breeze. Cool water sings without ceasing as it cascades through the rocky riverbed.... Delicate white clouds glide across a dome of brilliant blue. Everywhere, all the time, the genuine magic of life emerges into awareness. There are things you can never know, and yet you know them so well. There are places you've never been, where you always long to return. The silent shadow of a hawk floats across the afternoon. If you let it, life will amaze you, even when it doesn't. The silence, the commotion, brilliance and darkness, all have their parts to play. A baby is born, a galaxy explodes, some things we understand, some we don't, and all of it is magic. Let the magic fill you so much it spills out from you all the time. It is at the very heart of who you truly are.
