The winter blues are real #seasonalaffectivedisorder . . Healthy Holiday Tip #4: The way to happiness is through your gut. Literally! Neurochemically! . When to use this tip: When you catch yourself feeling down as daylight hours get shorter.... . How to use this tip: Care for your mental health by caring for your gut health! Simply put, eat more plant-based foods that are anti-inflammatory and/or high in omega-3 fatty acids - blueberries, oats, black beans, bananas, turmeric, ginger, and nuts to name a few. Probiotic/fermented foods like kimchi, kombucha, sauerkraut, etc. are amazing at rebalancing the #gutmicrobiome. In addition, minimize highly processed foods, which can throw off the balance of the gut. . Why it works: Considering that 90% of our serotonin (which contributes to feelings of happiness + wellbeing) is formed in the gut, it's easy to see why the gut is known as our "second brain." By populating your microbiome with good microbes, the gut is better able to carry out its normal functions (digestion, creating neurotransmitters, immunity, +more!). It is common for serotonin to decline during fall & winter, so it's especially important to watch what we eat during this time. #mindbodyconnection . DISCLAIMER: This tip is NOT meant to treat/cure depression. Please seek professional help if you are experiencing harmful or overwhelming mental conditions. . #ttrhealthyholidays #healthtips #healthcoach #mentalhealth #guthealth #stressedout #seasonalaffectivedisorder #anxiety #happyguthappylife @ Los Angeles, California See more

Research shows that dieting SUCKS. Here's what I think: . Tip #3: Remove guilt from your diet. . When to use this tip: Whenever you feel guilt around your food, body, or inability to stick to that diet you read about online. You know, the one that's supposed to make you look like a "model"??... . How to use this tip: If you catch yourself feeling guilty about what you ate, how much you ate, or what your body looks like, take a deep breath. Shift your perspective from guilt ("I ate that cookie, and now my whole diet is ruined. I'll never lose those last 10 lbs!") to compassion ("I enjoyed that cookie! What else can I do to best serve the needs of my body and mind?"). Moving forward, remember that the most toxic ingredient in your diet is guilt. . Why this works: Guilt can weigh you down energetically, making you feel heavy, sad, and unworthy of becoming your best self. Don't let it hold you down on your journey to self love and self healing. Compassion allows you to accept where you are on your journey and still strive for your goals. Restrictive dieting doesn't work because it runs on guilt and body shaming. In fact, research shows that most people who go on restrictive diets for weight loss are very likely to regain their weight. Health shouldn't be about weight - it should be about how you feel in your body, mind, and soul. . #ttrhealthyholidays #merryandmindful #holistichealth #wellness #iinhealthcoach #sugarcravings #compassion #ditchyourdiet #unlessitsunderdoctorsorders @ Los Angeles, California See more

If you tend to get strong sugar cravings around the holidays (), try this simple #MerryandMindful tip! Tip #2: Get your sugar fix from... Vegetables?! . When to use this tip: While prepping your food or ordering from a menu during a meal where you already know you might go overboard on dessert (but you might not want to skip out on dessert entirely ). .... How to use this tip: Incorporate sweet vegetables and fruits into your meal. Garnet yams, beets, carrots, apples, and persimmons are great seasonal options to look for. Eat as much of these as you'd like! Notice how the energy you get from naturally sweet foods is different from a sugar rush. . Why it works: Eating naturally sweet vegetables and fruits helps crowd out sugar cravings. By filling up on natural sweetness first, you should be left with little to no cravings for processed sugar. But if you must have a slice of warm pie with ice cream... do it! Happy Holidays! . Excessive sugar cravings may stem from lack of nutrients, excessive stress, or imbalance in other non-food areas of your life. If this is a serious concern for you, I can help guide you through it! Healthy Holidays are HERE, Friends! Merry + Mindful Tip #1: H2O, then PSL. . When to use this tip: When you're about to indulge in a decadent holiday drink full of sugar and spice and... more sugar. I use this tip to keep myself from downing my drink too fast and then reaching for more. . How to use this tip: Drink a full glass of water before enjoying your cocoa, cider, or pumpkin latte (homemade or from your local independent coffee shop, of course!).... . Why it works: Our bodies sometimes confuse thirst for sugar craving. Sugar and caffeine do NOT quench thirst - they can actually dehydrate you more. If you start by quenching your thirst, you ensure that you aren't downing your special drink out of thirst. Then, you can spend more time sipping those sweet holiday spices. . Let me know if this helps you manage your sugar cravings during the holidays! . #merryandmindful #TTRHEALTHYHOLIDAYS #healthyholidays #sugarcravings #holistichealth @ Pasadena, California See more

What's the difference between food that came from a plant and food made in a plant ? . They both have nutritional value, contain ingredients from the Earth, and are delicious. BUT! Our bodies are not equipped to process processed food. . Foods made in factories (processed foods ) generally...... - contain large amounts of sugar, unhealthy fats, chemicals, and/or preservatives. - are often purposefully addictive. - cause inflammation (which is the start of many other health problems). - decrease gut microbe diversity. - produce unnecessary waste from packaging, which is usually plastic. - come from corporations who don't actually care about our health, even if their packages are marked "healthy." . Foods grown in plants ()... - have fed humans since the beginning of humans, so our bodies are designed to digest these. - generally decrease inflammation. - increase gut health. - boosts mood (90% of serotonin is made in the gut!) #mindbodyconnection - increase energy and vitality. - are more sustainable to produce than processed packaged foods, including meat and dairy. - contain all the necessary nutrients for a healthy life (yes, even b12! see: freeze dried kombu seaweed). . Every meal is a chance to be more mindful of our food choices. For our bodies, for our communities, and for our planet. How do you plan to incorporate more plants into your diet? . #holistic #iinalumni #healthcoach #ecofriendly #guthealth #foodpolitics #eatyourveggies See more
