Torrance Little League 12.02.2021

Greetings TLL Parents! We received encouraging information from the California Department of Public Health, that is paving the way for us to begin playing games again. The first step will be having a case rate at 14 or lower per 100,000 residents in LA County. We should have an answer next week as to when we can officially play & will also need to satisfy COVID requirements from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health & the City of Torrance. We do know that we will... need to comply with the following general guidance requirements at all times: Face coverings to be worn when not participating in the activity (e.g., on the sidelines). Face coverings to be worn by coaches, support staff & observers at all times, & in compliance with the CDPH Guidance for the Use of Face Coverings. No sharing of drink bottles, other personal items & equipment. Mixing with other households prior to & post any practice or competition must strictly adhere to current gathering guidance. Associated indoor activities for the team (e.g., dinners, film study) are prohibited if engaged in competition given evidence that transmission is more likely to occur in these indoor higher risk settings. Teams must not participate in out-of-state games & tournaments; several multistate outbreaks have been reported around the nation, including California residents. Limitations on Observers Observers maintain at least 6 feet from non-household members. Face coverings to be worn at all times. Limit observation of youth sports (age 18 years & under) to immediate household members, & for the strict purpose of age appropriate supervision. This includes observation of practice & games. Consider waiting in your car or dropping off your child & return following the practice or game. Hygiene & Equipment Sanitation When equipment is shared during an activity, participants perform hand hygiene (wash hands with soap & water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer) before play, during breaks, at half time, & after the conclusion of the activity. Balls or other objects or equipment can be touched by multiple players during practice & play if the above hand hygiene practices are followed. One of the first things that we need to get completed by everyone is completion of the COVID waiver. If you have not completed the COVID waiver, please contact your team manager for the form. No waiver, will mean no play. We can't wait to get back to playing baseball & shall send additional communication once new information is available. Regards, Matt Crew TLL President

Dear TLL Parents, We are asking for support from all players, parents and extended family of Torrance Little League to request that youth sports be allowed to play in California. We are asking everyone to write a letter, addressed to Governor Gavin Newsom expressing why they want sports back. We are hoping to get as many letters shared with the Let Them Play CA group, who will be presenting the letters at the state capitol this Thursday, February 11th. Here is a sample st...ructure for letters written by student athletes: Include your name, What you like about sports. How sports has helped you. What you miss about sports. What negative impact has not playing sports had on your and your friends. End with something like... Please Governor Newsom, Let US Play!. For the parents letter, same structure, just from your perspective. Please email all letters to [email protected]. All letters need to be submitted by Midnight on Wednesday, February 10th. Let Them Play CA is an organized group headed by High School Coaches and families with the mission of opening up California's youth sports programs. They are state wide and are motivated to make change in California by meetings with Assembly Members and State Senators from both parties to allow all youth sports to open across our state. If you don't know about Let Them Play CA, you can follow their group on Facebook to learn more about the movement. Sincerely, TLL Board of Directors

Our 2020 Fall Mini-Camps were an overwhelming success. We had well over 150 campers participate in our camps over a 9 week period. Following strict masking and hygiene protocols, we were able to provide a safe environment for our kids so they could get back to playing baseball. While we could not have competitive play, we did some conditioning, conducted drills, provided live pitch, and played modified games of Over The Line to let the kids release some of their competitive j...uices. The safety of our players, families, and volunteers was our utmost priority, and we are happy to report that 100% of our campers and volunteers were safe and healthy. Registration for our 2021 Spring Season is still open. California has recently released guidelines on reopening youth sports. Based on these guidelines & with vaccine being dispensed, we’re hopeful that our kids will be able to have a 2021 Spring Baseball season. We understand that several of our families may be a bit hesitant to register with all of the uncertainties of whether or not they’ll be able to play, so we wanted to share the reopening guidelines. Please see below for info regarding how youth sports will be reopened. https://www.cdph.ca.gov//outdoor-indoor-recreational-sport

Because our 2020 season abruptly ended, we were unable to honor TLL’s Legacy Players the way that we traditionally do. Legacy Players are kids who started playing at TLL in tee ball & played all of the way through their final major season, without skipping a year. Thank you so much for your dedication to TLL. We are proud of each of you & can’t wait to see where life takes you! Please enjoy this video honoring our 2020 Legacy Players.

Due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns, we will be unable to hold a traditional Fall Ball Season with teams and games. However, the City of Torrance will allow us to have Day Camps as long as we follow strict safety guidelines. The Fall season has always been more focused on building up the fundamentals of play, so we will instead conduct a series of 6-8 weekend mini-camps to give our kids the opportunity to build their skills in throwing, hitting, fielding mechanics, outfield p...lay, and base-running. In order to have safe, outdoor and organized baseball during this time, and keep the cost to families as low as possible, we have had a few dedicated volunteers step up to act as coaches/instructors/facilitators for each weekend’s mini-camp. The League will provide a curriculum with training/skills plans and set up the drills to be done on each camp day. We will be holding 3 mini-camp sessions each weekend: 9-11 am: League Age 7-8 YO, 12-2 pm: League Age 9-10 YO 3-5 pm: League Age 11-13 YO. Please use the link below to determine your 2021 Little League Age: https://www.littleleague.org/downl/2021-baseball-age-chart/ Sign-ups will be very limited, with no more than 20 campers per session. Each session will be split into small groups with no more than 10 campers per group with a coach To register please visit the TLL website at https://www.torrancelittleleague.com. Our goal is for all campers to have a fun and safe experience while focusing on individual skill development. The camp will concentrate on throwing & catching drills and techniques, specialty position practice (pitching, catching, infield, and outfield), base-running, hitting drills and live coach-pitching. Campers will be encouraged to play many different positions. Having a positive attitude, effort, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship will also be stressed. * Drills will be designed with social distancing in mind * Hand sanitizer will be on site and administered throughout the day along with hand washing * There will be sanitizing of camp equipment along with no sharing of personal equipment. * COST: $25/session with weekly sign ups available. A $5 discount/session is available for participants who are individually registered 5 or more sessions. What to Bring to Camp * Campers must bring face coverings. * Players must bring their own equipment: baseball glove, helmet, bat, and batting gloves. * Baseball pants, socks and protective cups are encouraged. * Campers must bring their own water and snacks, food will not be available. Thank you so much to our Volunteers, but we could use more! Please write to [email protected] and let us know ASAP if you are willing to act as a coach. We will waive the fee for any one child whose parent is volunteering that session. TLL Board of Directors
