Happy Father's Day to all Dads and men of influence in the lives of children. Although the pandemic has taken a toll on the mental health of our children, not all the impacts of the pandemic are negative. One bright spot is children who experience more "dad time" with fathers and male role models see a lasting effect on child development. Researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine found that children who have fathers in their lives learn better, have higher self-esteem and show fewer signs of depression." We are pleased to announce a new addition to our leadership team. Stephen Y. Hsu joined our Board of Directors in May 2021. He is coming off an eight year tenure serving on the board of the Mid-Peninsula Boys and Girls Club. Since the beginning of his professional career, he has been committed to giving back to his community and has a passion for helping others. Today we remember and honor the service of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of this Nation. We remember their families, friends, and loved ones, who are left behind to grieve their immense loss.

We are saddened to hear about the latest mass shooting that took the lives of eight individuals this morning at a light rail station in San Jose, California. It's hard to comprehend yet another act of violence in our community. To combat the desensitization to these acts, it is important to acknowledge the tragedy and support each other by talking about any feelings or concerns that may come up. We will hold the loved ones of those who were killed in our hearts and will continue our work in the area of anti-violence to make a difference.

In the lead up to the holidays we've all got "to do" lists that seem to stretch a mile long, and plenty of stress to go around. It's easy to let a few flippant remarks slip that might unintentionally hurt friends and family. This is a great read to help make sure you're not accidentally raining on anyone's parade.

Expectations were eclipsed by the final results of our first online auction. With 145 items and close to 100 supporters bidding and donating, we are proud to have raised over $22,000, which will go towards the work we will do in 2021. We plan to meet our financial commitment to support the operation of Tim's House. We will continue to invest in at-risk youth with counseling and education support. And we look forward to resuming our Meadowlark grief retreats as soon as it is s...afe to do so. Although the auction was successful and a lot of fun, we miss being able to gather and celebrate with all of you at our Annual Gala. We miss our time with the volunteers who make the Gala possible each year. Thanksgiving is the perfect time for all of us at the Foundation to express how grateful we are for your support. Especially during such challenging times. We hope you find joy in the impact we make in our communities together.
