A goodnight story about things I will tell my children: put yourself in situations where you are uncomfortable. Do this a lot. Repeat. Discomfort creates the potential for growth. Hard conversations are important. You’re not going to get them from only hanging out with people who talk like you, grew up the way you did, see things just how you see them. Challenge yourself. Ask questions. Make mistakes. Learn. Take time to be quiet and listen. Make things right if you wrong som...eone. The absolute best experiences I have had in my life came from being the only white person/American in a room full of people from other places with different ideas, world views, experiences, food. If you are the majority all of the time, it’s hard to truly know compassion, to understand the complexity of the human experience - to learn how to sit in discomfort and be okay with that. If you are the majority all of the time you’re going to think you know best all of the time, and you’ll forget that you don’t, and you won’t learn a thing. You’ll die with the same ideas you had in your head sixty years earlier. You’ll hurt people and you may not even realize it. Don’t run from discomfort, embrace it like an old friend. Southern California is a beautiful little bubble with so so many things and people I love, but it’s a bubble just the same. We can’t build our worldview on the ideas of just a few. I love the beach and eating organic tacos and watching the sunset and feeling safe and who doesn’t but this isn’t the experience of the majority. A post dedicated to people you can lean on If and when you find yourself uninspired, overwhelmed, sad, angry, human - look to the people you love. Here is one of them - @mona_vegas - anything that appears remotely professional around here is mostly her work (or the other girls), she has impeccable style as evidenced here, and can create pretty much anything from flower arrangements to jewelry to logos to art. Over the last year of pregnancy and having our third kid, I lost... myself and this business a bit. I think this is natural or at least I know it is for me because it’s happened three times now I’m lucky to have people I can trust to help me keep it all going. No one does it alone. And as my friend @littlefoxcupsandcones reminded me, life is peaks and valleys and sometimes you just roll right down the hill. That’s okay. I was born in a valley so I know something about climbing I’m thankful to @mona_vegas @jo___elise @kellieshay and the entire Zamora family aka @dzg.at.home and @nancy.zam who have thrown me all sorts of ropes this past year and if you’re feeling down think of all the people who you love and who love you back. Been feeling uninspired lately. That’s all. I think it’s okay though. Just taking one day at a time, living with my constant companions anxiety and depression. It always helps me when I remember my human condition - this body I’m living in. Most of us are doing our best. I see you.

As a mother of three most places I inhabit are fairly stinky. Found these gorgeous clay and rattan air fresheners though and they’ve been a life changer. Simply add your favorite essential oil(s) to the wood bead, place above changing table/sock drawer/rear view mirror and voila!
