"These operations enable the U.S. Navy-Coast Guard team to maintain our nation's advantage at sea. Working with our U.S. Coast Guard counterparts has allowed us to expand interoperability between our AEGIS weapons system and their unmanned systems. The Coast Guard is an indispensable partner in an integrated, all-domain naval force. Together, we remain ready to uphold maritime governance, support partners, and counter malign behaviors throughout the world. - Cmdr. Scott Maloney, USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) commanding officer

At the heart of every Navy victory is the sacrifice and valor of American Sailors. Sailors significantly contributed to a legacy of heroism today’s force may be called upon to demonstrate. Learn more about Lt. Richard H. Best who was awarded both the Navy Cross and Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions during the Battle of Midway.
All across the U.S. Navy this week, Sailors have been reflecting on the Battle of Midway. Fought June 4-7, 1942, it turned the tide of World War II in the Pacif...ic, and the many examples of determination and courage continue to inspire us today. Believing the U.S. Pacific Fleet was on the verge of collapse, the Japanese planned to invade the small, strategic outpost of Midway Island, which, if taken, would allow them to threaten Hawaii directly. U.S. Navy cryptographers cracked the Japanese code and Admiral Chester Nimitz knew their attack plan. In preparation, the U.S. Navy planned to ambush Japanese forces. The battle that followed, recounted here by Naval History & Heritage Command, is considered by many historians to be the most decisive engagement in modern naval warfare. #Midway79 #WWIITurningPoint
