Great segment on 60 Minutes tonight on the 76th anniversary of Germany's surrender, a week after Hitler committed suicide.
Renaissance man Nakee Hanks has agreed to serve as our engineer for a monthlong sound mitigation project aimed at restoring tranquility for Navy veteran Roy Finegan of Long Beach. Nakee is designing a Noise Relief Room that Roy will build. The two of them met Saturday to get started.
Roy Finegan describes his rackety environment, and his hopes for the Noise Relief Room that HomeFront Rising is helping him build:
Navy veteran Roy Finegan is plagued by incessant noise where he lives, so HomeFront Rising is helping him design and build a Noise Relief Room. Your donation will enable us to obtain the high-quality materials needed to shut out unwanted sounds, and provide other low-income veterans with a Noise Relief Room at no charge to them. Roy worked under a flight deck where aircraft constantly landed and took off when he served as a diesel mechanic on the USS Independence from 1989 to... 1993. The intense roar and clatter left him with permanent tinnitus and other debilitating effects. Moreover, Roy's current upstairs neighbor makes it impossible for him to enjoy his life without a Noise Relief Room. "Bridging Wellness" is a collaborative effort by Angels Gate Cultural Center, Arts Council for Long Beach, Compound LB and 10 other organizations and artists in the Harbor Region. May is Mental Health Awareness Month.
