Should I Buy or use a used CPAP MACHINE? No, Don't use a used CPAP machine for many reasons. SO many people ask and over the 6 years we have been open: many people say I am going to use my friends machine he or she is not using it anymore.Many people try to save money or bypass the system with used CPAP equipment given to them by a fiend or purchased on craigslist. This is not a smart nor healthy idea. many CPAP machines are calibrated with a fixed pressure, meaning they bl...ow a steady constant stream of air. This pressure is determined by a sleep study.and a medical expert sleep MD making a recommendation of the pressures needed. that means the pressure is customized to each patients needs.Too much pressure can create discomfort. In addition, too much air pressure can create central sleep apnea. which can be very dangerous.Too little pressure and the CPAP is ineffective and sleep apnea and snoring will persist. Besides the obvious sanitary concerns each mask must be carefully fitted and sized to the patients face. If a mask does not fit properly air leaks will occur and the CPAP machine will not be effective. CPAP Machines are considered CLASS 11 medical devices buy the FDA and therefore require a prescription by your medical doctor.Therefore it is illegal to buy or sell these device without a valid medical prescription. Do yourself a favor. Don't use a used device where your health is concerned. Work with a sleep testing center and a have a sleep study first. Without the study you are just guessing!
