For our older adults, these tough times can be even tougher. Social isolation or anxiety can be difficult enough without a pandemic, and with more cautious rest...rictions to keep us safer this holiday season, it is even more crucial to give older adults the resources that they need. Mental health and feelings of isolation are a serious problem for everyone during the pandemic. Remember, we are all in this together and that means playing your part right now. That part could simply be staying safe and keeping up your physical and mental well being. Why not try new things such as: Go for walks in the park or nature Connect with far away friends and family by telephone Start a garden (indoors or outdoors) Try writing (a book, journaling, an autobiography, letters to family or a pen pal) Volunteer (become a crisis counselor, sew/donate masks, clothing, and other items for people in need) Explore different languages Online adventures (Walk through museums, travel documentaries) Put together albums and family trees It is now more important than ever to minimize exposure, limiting the people that we can see to our own households. Doing this will keep everyone in the house more protected, and make it even more enjoyable to see others when it is safe. Find resources for older adults, such as counseling, caregiving, transportation, and more at our Social Services Agency website: https://www.sccgov.org//d/Pages/older_adult_resources.aspx

Feliz Días de Los Muertos (Days of the Dead)! This celebration is a two-day festival that takes place every November 1 and 2. Although most strongly identified with Mexico, Días de Los Muertos is celebrated throughout Latin America and everywhere with a Latino population, including California. Días de Los Muertos honors deceased loved ones with festivals and lively celebrations. In addition to these celebrations, families erect ofrendassmall, personal altars honoring one ...person. Ofrendas often have flowers, candles, food, drinks, photos and personal mementos of the individual being remembered. This day recognizes death as a natural part of the human experience, a continuum with birth, childhood and growing up to become a contributing member of the community. All residents are reminded to follow @CityofSanJose and @SCC guidance to stop the spread of COVID-19. Día de Los Muertos celebrations, events or parties with non-household members are not permitted unless they are conducted in compliance with local and State Health Orders: https://www.sccgov.org/.../mandatory-directives....
