The Osteopathy’s Promise to Children (OPC) Board of Directors opposes all forms of racism. We especially recognize the disproportionately negative impact of racial inequity on the health and well-being of African Americans. Our mission is to perform research, provide education and training, and operate a medical clinic in the area of pediatric osteopathy with the ultimate goal of improving the health and well-being of the individual patient and the public. Racism and discrimination of any kind is a threat to achieving this mission. We are committed to ensuring that OPC policies, practices, and programs are inclusive and equitable, and will actively work to refine our mission and strategic goals to reduce health disparities and advance health equity.
****We are thrilled to share with our AN community a first of its kind service for our patients!**** This inpatient service is now being offered and may be bene...ficial in helping to address nausea, vertigo and neck tension during the first post-operative days. We are committed to finding new ways to provide comprehensive care tailored to the specific needs of acoustic neuroma patients. Here is a description from our provider, Dr. Alice Chen, Assistant Clinical Professor, Family Medicine and Public Health: "Osteopathic Manual Medicine (OMM) is a specialty focused on the relationship between our body's structure (anatomy) and function (physiology). Our underlying philosophy takes an integrative, mind-body-spirit approach towards health and disease. OMM specialists have an in-depth understanding of the intricate and interconnected systems of muscles, nerves, bones, organs, and vessels. We seek to return the body to its natural alignment across those systems in order to foster health, healing, and recovery. We do this through Osteopathic Manual Treatment (OMT), which utilizes the gentle application of our hands. OMM doctors will complete a nuanced physical exam to look for dysfunction in your body's system which may be impeding healing from illness or recovery from surgery. We then apply OMT based on our findings during the exam. The entire process is a non-invasive, non-drug-based complement to the care you are already receiving from your other doctors. It can help with pain, inflammation, and other symptoms you may be experiencing. We look forward to being a part of your AN healthcare team. "

Welcoming the Newest BALF/Lyme Disease Biobank to Osteopathic Center San Diego - https://mailchi.mp//givingtuesday-is-november-27-can-we-co
We were very happy to welcome Congressman Scott Peters and Councilmember Chris Cate this morning, as well as representatives from the offices of Council President Barbara Bry, Senator Toni Atkins and Assemblymember Todd Gloria to help celebrate the opening of the new Bay Area Lyme Foundation's (BALF) Lyme Disease Biobank located here at Osteopathic Center San Diego. As the epicenter for osteopathic practice and supports, we're honored to work together to leverage our collecti...ve expertise toward empowering change in our healthcare system to better improve patient outcomes. The new BALF/Lyme Disease Biobank site, located inside Osteopathic Center San Diego, is the 14th in the U.S. and the 2nd site in San Diego. This new site is particularly relevant and will provide valuable resources for both academics and industry researchers involved with our center both locally and around the US. The BALF/Lyme Disease Biobank program will dramatically increase the collection of well-characterized tissue samples to enable research efforts which seek to accelerate medical breakthroughs in the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease and other tick-borne infections. In addition, OMT has also been shown in several studies to improve lymphatic system function which helps the immune system to function better and reduce inflammation. Both of these improvements would help patients recover faster from infections such as Lyme Disease. OCC physician Hollis H. King, DO, PhD, FAAO, FCA shares, "I see Lyme disease in my practices [with my patients] and OMT improves the condition by reducing symptom intensity and frequency of occurrence." Together, our combined efforts will help the larger community to better understand Lyme Disease as an emerging public health issue, and will aid in the development of new diagnostics and treatments in order to better serve our patient populations. Additionally, it provides a way to actively engage the patients suffering with this chronic disease so they may be part of finding the solution. Truly a patient-driven, patient-centered effort!
