The violence perpetrated by rioters storming the Capitol Building was a shocking attack on our democracy and a painful reminder of the deep chasm that separates different segments of our country. With courage we must do what we can to repair our democracy. With humility we must turn toward each other with understanding so that there might be a great healing. At this moment, let us be guided by the teaching of the Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr: Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
