Kensington Campus, the 14-acre therapeutic community in Lancaster welcomed the first interim housing program participants last month. We are in the process of bringing more of our neighbors inside! This past weekend, talented artists from our Studio 526 program celebrated the 11th Annual Festival for Skid Row Artists by collaborating on a collective art piece. The individual canvasses are connected by a ring to represent unity in our communities. Kudos to all of the incredible artists who worked to create this impactful piece! The People Concern's Studio 526 program is a key element of our wellness programming - expression through art is healing for many people.

Los Angeles has a severe shortage of affordable and supportive housing. Historically, underserved communities and people experiencing homelessness have been undercounted in the decennial census. The COVID-19 pandemic posed unforeseen challenges for administering an accurate count. While annual point-in-time counts track the number of people experiencing homelessness, the 2020 Census determines the distribution of funding from federal assistance housing programs such as the Community Development Block Grants. This funding is critical for communit...ies, especially this year, due to the growing housing and income insecurity across the nation as a result of the pandemic.
