As the new northwest swell arrives Sunday, a return of King Tides is on Monday. High Tides is likely to reach 7 feet along the California Coast. Minor coastal flooding will be possible for low lying areas.

Monterey Bay Military Community, Happy New Year. I hope that you and your families had a safe and happy holiday. Over the break, I directed the garrison to shut down all non-essential services 4-8 January. This time was to allow symptoms to develop, test those individuals, and isolate those individuals. This measure has proved to be effective in limiting spread. However, case numbers are still relatively high.... Out of caution, I am directing the garrison to shut down all non-essential services through Monday, 11 January. This will allow for several more days for symptoms to develop and give us Monday to test and isolate individuals that become symptomatic. A few details: Military Personnel Division (ID card, orders, records, in/out processing) will open on Tuesday, 12 January for normal business. Price Fitness Center will resume pre block leave hours on Tuesday, 12 January. **The Monterey Road CDC and Porter Youth Center will open up on Monday, 11 January. I want to limit the amount of turbulence for our families. The Porter Youth Center will be closed for part-day pre-school care 11-15 January because of staffing. Garrison employees with a tele-working agreement are encouraged to continue to telework. All others may return to work on 12 January. According to an article in the Washington Post yesterday, 59% of COVID transmission occurs with non-symptomatic individuals. 35% pass the virus before developing symptoms. 24% never develop symptoms. Act as if you and those around you have the virus. Wear a mask, watch your distance, and wash your hands. Those simple measures are effective at limiting spread. V/R Varman VARMAN S. Dear Residents, Our offices will be closed on Veterans day, Wednesday, November 11th. The Beautification Center at 4518 Joe Lloyd way will also be closed on this coming Wednesday. As reminder, the beautification center is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (unless on a scheduled holiday). The hours are 8 am-11:30 am, 1:30 pm-4:30 pm.
