BRENT’S DELI SELECTS THE JOSHUA PROJECT FOUNDATION T0 BE PART OF ITS COMMUNITY APPRECIATION DAY ON MAY 20 Brent’s Deli will Donate a Portion of its Sales When You Dine at Either Location on May 20... Brent’s Deli, ranked the number one delicatessen and restaurant in Los Angeles by Zagat, has selected The Joshua Project Foundation to be part of its first-ever Community Appreciation Day on Wednesday, May 20 from opening until closing. The Joshua Project Foundation is one of several local charities who will share in the day’s revenue with Brent’s Deli donating 20-percent of sales to worthy causes. We feel very honored to be among those non-profits selected by Brent’s Deli for their inaugural Community Appreciation Day, said Christie Goldenberg, co-founder and vice president at The Joshua Project Foundation. We encourage all of our supporters to dine at Brent’s Deli on May 20th in order to help raise funds and awareness for The Joshua Project Foundation. While this is Brent’s first-ever Community Appreciation Day, the landmark deli has been an advocate for several local non-profit charities, including The Boys & Girls Club, Las Virgenes School District, and local children’s sports teams, just to name a few. Marc Hernandez, one of Brent’s Deli’s partners and the son-in-law of Brent’s founder Ron Peskin, will be honored next month when he receives The Philanthropy Award from the Las Virgenes Public Schools Foundation, an organization where he has been extremely serving as a volunteer on various boards and initiatives. We’re very excited about having our first-ever Community Appreciation Day, said Hernandez. And we plan on this becoming an annual event for both Brent’s Deli locations. Guests who dine at either Brent’s locations, opt for take-out, or place a catering order for May 20 will be helping to give back to the community through their patronage and supporting organizations such as The Joshua Project Foundation. Brent’s Deli will host its Community Appreciation Day on Wednesday, May 20 from 6am to 9pm at both locations. Brent’s Northridge location is at 19565 Parthenia Street in Northridge and is open daily from 6am-9pm. The Westlake Village location, which features a bar and daily happy hour, is open from 7am-9pm and is at 2799 Townsgate Road. For additional information, visit brentsdeli.com or call 818.886.5679 (Northridge) or 805. 557.1882 (Westlake Village).

Congratulations to Josh Goldenberg for making it as a finalist in the National Braille Challenge for the 2nd year in a row! Josh competed with over 1,100 other blind students throughout the US and Canada and only the top 60 made it to finals. The finals will be held in June! Good Luck Josh!

We were fortunate to have wine with Braille labels donated for our dark dining event. It was a wonderful way to help express the need for more Braille labeling to a group of sighted diners who are blindfolded through a meal.

What began as a science project has developed into a remarkable start-up. This young entrepreneur launches Braigo (Braille+Lego), affordable Braille printers originally designed with Legos.

Josh filmed a segment of "Live Life and Win" a few years ago and it just recently aired. The show features teenagers out to change the world. Since Josh was only 9 at the time, perhaps they were waiting until he was a little closer to his teen years! http://www.livelifeandwin.com/joshua-goldenberg-the-joshua/

Using heightened sense of smell and taste, blind winemakers are able "to react more quickly to promote positive developments in the process and prevent negative developments" than their sighted colleagues.
