The Healing Gardens of Ayurveda 14.02.2021

Repost from @live_ayurvedic For the last couple years I’ve been working behind the scenes with my partner Ram, in supporting his business and his Ayurvedic practice and I continue to do that... But I’m excited to announce that I’m stepping out a bit from behind the scenes and going to also be sharing Ayurveda in a new, fun and (bold, for me) way! ... I’m going to have to keep you hanging for TWO DAYS before I announce what it is. I’ll share on Friday what we’re cooking up for you! Anyone want to venture a guess?

~Ayurveda as a science of prevention. ~ One of the main goals of #Ayurveda is to prevent illness, to preserve health and promote longevity. How do we do this? Well, first we need to get familiar with ourselves -- our constitution, what our tendencies are, the strengths and potential weak spots in our mind-body. It is well worth the time to learn about the doshas, and what sets them in balance and out of balance. The second part is learning what causes ‘imbalance’ -- the see...ds of disease. To prevent something, it helps to know what might cause it! And while there are many factors that we may not have 100% control over -- genetics, food we have access to, toxins in our environment there is a great many things we have control over. These simple tenets of managing health -- appropriate nutrition, high quality sleep, regular exercise, deep breathing, and connecting with our thoughts and emotions -- are the building blocks of good health. Add in the magic of individualization -- the appropriate choices and habits for YOU, at this stage and place in life, that’s what makes Ayurveda an incredible ally to help you build the peak health and wellbeing that you deserve. Reach out for a consultation to get your individualized guidance and feel empowered by taking health into your own hands. We’ve guided thousands of people over the last 18 years and can’t wait to tell you about your Ayurvedic constitution.

A question I’ve been meditating on... and the more frequently I check in with myself during the day, bringing myself back to the moment, from the million distractions, the to-do lists, the overwhelm, the more time I spend in presence... and then the magic evolves. Have a beautiful weekend.

Food as medicine is a big part of Ayurvedic living. And as food fads appear by the dozen each year, Ayurveda has an approach that appeals to common sense anything we eat can be medicine or poison depending on how & when we take it. Ayurveda classifies foods by their taste (there are six tastes), effect on metabolism, and impact on the body after digestion... To choose an Ayurvedic diet, you begin by knowing yourself... your constitution, your internal & external environme...nt, the strength of your digestive capacity and metabolism. Eating healthy means incorporating the right proportions of the six tastes for your constituents, your digestive capacity and metabolism. It might seem complex, but it’s simple. Begin to pay attention to the tastes of foods and how the make you feel after... Are you familiar with the 6 tastes? Let me know in the comments below to win a free pass to our upcoming webinar on Ayurvedic nutrition. #ayurvedic #ayurvedalifestyle #vata #pitta #kapha #liveayurvedic #ayurvedaeveryday #holisticnutrition #eatsmart #eathealthy

A favourite in many parts of the world, there's things about the mighty peanut you must know... Peanuts are actually legumes, not nuts. And peanuts do have many nutritional benefits -- they are high in antioxidants, folate, protein, fiber, resveratrol, vitamins, and more. Unfortunately, a lot of people have peanut allergies and sensitivities... But a more serious concern is the fungus aflatoxin, which grows on peanuts while they are produced and stored. Aflatoxin is a carci...nogen and studies show that a majority of peanut products have high levels of aflatoxin present. What does this mean? We recommend you limit consumption of peanuts. A handful of organic peanuts occasionally is fine, but abstain from it being a regular confort food and replace your PB&J sandwiches with a spread of cashew, walnut, macadamia or almond nut butter... Look for products with no additional additives or preservatives. Certainly avoid peanut butter when you have mucus-y coughs or congestions! So, do you eat a lot of peanuts and are going to change that up? A handful of raw or sprouted nuts are a great snack and pack a punch of energy and nutrition... but a good mix of a variety is always recommended... tell us what you do!
