Not in the authentic, love and light, bullshit way, but in the way that Americans can easily forget because our apathy runs so deep. I'm not one to spout politics here, but I am one to shout for equality, equity, and equal human rights. She is less a radical feminist ninja than a meticulous law tactician and she has become what we dream of for our toddler daughters. Another legend has been lost and it's not time to mourn. It's a full moon and lunar eclipse on what Americans know as Independence Day. I spend today at a campground celebrating with my mother in her sparkling new RV. Appreciating and acknowledging our privilege and recognizing those who do not have the same access to the things that we can easily take for granted. We talk about the nominal ways that we are making the change today and the bigger vision of what we are enacting for our future and the generations of our lineage ...that will follow. The Revolution has begun and we continue to awaken as a human race. There's still a lot of work to be done. So today I leave you with Lady Liberty 2.0. May we all celebrate our unique freedoms and do the work to actually allow for the American Dream to be free for all, in reality not just in the statements and beliefs of what our forefathers told us. On this day in 1865, Juneteenth was enacted to honor Slavery being abolished in the USA. This has been a holiday that was celebrated by the black community since its inception. However, it has not been celebrated nationally by all Americans. This is one of many events in the history of Black Americans that have been erased from the history books in schools nationwide. I am a storyteller first and Photography is the method that I use to tell them. My mission and what brings ...me the most joy in this life is to help women to feel their unique power and have poignant images of the love and beauty that I see in each of them. I am looking to spotlight and highlight the beauty that is inherent in WOC and do what I can as an artist to counteract the negative imagery that exist for women of color. I’d like to make a call for women of color to step forward and be honored for their presence and unique authenticity. I am doing my own work to unpack and dismantle any biased beliefs that I may have and I have sought and paid for guidance from Ask Alexis, a WOC anti-racism coach so that I can co-create an awareness project to highlight the Beauty of Black Culture. A photo series that will share not only the inherent beauty of strong black and brown women but pay tribute to the heritage and honor some of the unseen that deserves more visibility. The mission is to help liberate some of the stories trapped in the body and release the shame of oppression. To allow the rest of the world to see what is truly great within you and showcase your stories. Juneteenth is a potent and important day and this project is deeply important to me as an ally and a lover of beauty.
