Diary of a Daily Booger-Collector Not that we’re popular enough to raise concern, but you may have noticed a dip in our postings. This is the by-product of a number of different fatigues: COVID-fatigue, election-fatigue, social media-fatigue, and, more recently, Rapid Antigen Test fatigue. Many local-area clinics and urgent care centers were becoming very restrictive of which patients they would perform rapid testing. What’s unfortunate is many employers, schools, and o...ther businesses were requiring a negative test result before someone could return to work or class, but clinics would refuse to test these individuals unless they were exhibiting symptoms. We purchased the materials to perform Rapid Antigen testing to help our community and these folks obtain rapid tests, as well as those who’d been exposed or developed symptoms but couldn’t get an appointment. We started with doing 3-4 tests a day, and quickly jumped to 16-20/day since they provide results in 15min. Here’s what we’ve learned: - The Rapid Antigen test is essentially a fancy booger donation. - My most-common requests of Siri have been Hey Siri, set timer for 15 minutes and Hey Siri, what day of the week is it? - Folks tend to really appreciate that our system doesn’t require the deep brain biopsy nasal swab. - Our patients have been really appreciative, kind, and thankful... as long as the results are negative (but also kind and appreciative when it’s positive, too) - The healthcare system is changing on an almost-weekly basis, and supplies come and go fast.
