The Collected Works 21.12.2020

Just saw the preview for Cutting Ball's production of Hedda Gabler, running through February. It's so fun and smart and engaging -- a fantastic ensemble cast, and really strong, imaginative direction by Yury Urnov. It's so nice to see this kind of theatre done so well in SF. Check it out!

Original artwork for John Arden’s The Bagman. The Bagman aired on BBC radio in March 1970, directed by Martin Esslin, then head of BBC drama. Esslin saw the piece as an exploration of the ‘dilemma’ of a liberal intellectual artist who feels himself unable to change the society he so accurately portrays. Arden, however, rejected this view: "I was interpreted by some critics at the time as absolving the playwright from having to do in society. I don’t believe that, and I d...idn’t believe it then. The play is a satire, a self-satire; if I were writing it now I would try to make it clearer. #theatrework #thebagman See more
