Oakland Unified School District celebrated three Emmy wins for OUSD alumni and connected artists last Sunday night! Oakland-raised Zendaya, whose mother taught at Fruitvale Elementary, took home the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Drama for her work in HBO's "Euphoria." McClymonds High School alumnus Yahya Abdul-Mateen II won the Emmy for Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his role in HBO's "Watchmen." ... Last but certainly not least, the documentary "We are the Dream: The Kids of the Oakland MLK Oratorical Fest," scored the Emmy for Outstanding Children's Program. This documentary is the work of Oakland-born executive producer Mahershala Ali, MLK Oratorical Fest producer and Skyline High drama teacher, Awele Makeba, and all Oakland students who took part in OUSD's 40th Annual MLK Oratorical Fest. CSU’s California Academic Partnership Program (CAPP) is seeking content specialists and professional learning facilitators for its new Intervention Specialist Certification. This certification will guide and teach our K-12 partners to develop and run an intervention program that is highly responsive and takes student needs into account. If you are interested in joining this effort and working directly with the teams of teachers who will be certified, please send a cover letter and resume to the Director, Dr. Robyn Fisher, at [email protected] by October 9, 2020.
