People living with HIV face life-changing stigma and discrimination. A recent survey showed that one in five people living with HIV have experienced verbal harassment or threats. A third reported having their HIV status disclosed without their consent by someone close to them. One in five reported being treated differently by their employer and many reported pressure at work to disclose their status. This impact is significant. 18% of respondents to this survey reported suici...dal thoughts within the past 12 months. And 17% of people living with HIV report ‘often’ skimping on food because of poverty. 15% said they’ve fallen behind with the bills. But education is key and that’s precisely what World AIDS Day is for. . . . Today is the Great American Smokeout! For more than 40 years, the American Cancer Society has hosted the Great American Smokeout on the third Thursday of November. The Great American Smokeout supports tobacco users in committing to healthy, tobacco-free lives not just for a day, but year round. Great American Smokeout also challenges people to stop using tobacco and helps people learn about the many tools they can use to help them quit and stay quit.
Another flu myth busted! Getting the flu comes with significantly higher risk than getting a flu shot. It’s also important we understand the privilege we may have by saying that we would rather just get sick with the flu. Many folks around us are not so lucky, and if we get the flu we increase the potential to spread the flu to someone else.... Just as a reminder- the Klotz SHC is offering free flu shot to currently enrolled CSUN students who do not have health insurance. Please give us a call before coming in (818)677-3666. #csun #calstatenorthridge #klotzshc #csunlife
We understand there is a lot of misinformation regarding the flu shot floating around out there! We’ll be addressing a few of them in the coming days. Just as a reminder- the Klotz SHC is offering free flu shot to currently enrolled CSUN students who do not have health insurance. Please give us a call before coming in (818)677-3666.... #csun #calstatenorthridge #klotzshc
