Update: To all of you who reached out with prayers and love -thank you so much. My mother is growing stronger and fighting her way back. It has been an amazing experience to hear from so many of you from all the chapters of my life-some from over 50 years ago. I am grateful.
Hello all- my beautiful mother, Rae Turnbull is struggling to survive the covid virus. She now fights to withstand the cyto storm that tried to take her from ...us the night before last. She has improved slightly but I am asking my facebook friends to pray for her and all those battling this evil virus. Thank you. See more

We learn of a great loss today. Pat Stanford, the voice of The Californios Ranch Roping and Stock Horse Contest left us yesterday. Words cannot describe the incredible contribution he made to that odyssey and we are so grateful to have called him friend. We will never be the same. Our prayers go out to his family and friends. His time on this earth made the world a better place.
Looks like a good clinic. Still a few rider spots available at this time.

Hello all- to those who messaged us regarding out Oct. home clinic series- yes we do accept credit cards. Just email us at [email protected] and we’ll sen...d you a paypal invoice. Cow working coming up first on Oct. 4-6 and there are currently rider spots still open. All levels- a great time. It’s the greatest thing to feel a horse develop confidence on a cow. They’re never the same once they understand their influence. Also wanted to share this great diagram that shows the age different bones in the horse are mature and able to withstand work. Looks like the old timers that started their horses later sorta knew what they were talking about. Please share! See more
Back from a great clinic trip to Montana and Wyoming. It’s so satisfying to watch the students who have invested in our program advance. That is the topic of to...days post. It takes years to develop a sound program that defines goals and incorperates steps to achieving them. Then it takes years to test that program to be sure that it is a practical functional road map. There’s just no shortcut on that. We’ve been at it long enough now that our program, though ever evolving, has become like an old friend we can count on. We are constantly learning from the horses and the cattle in our charge, always adding to our knowledge base, honing it, improving it. But our program keeps providing a genuine template for advancement for all who invest in it. Fall is in the air and attention turns inward as those of us above the equator begin to prepare for winter. Learning has momentum to it and we frequently lose our edge when winter rolls around. Though fall can be a time for reflection on a summer spent with our horses, it need not grind all learning to a halt. The fall and winter offer us a chance to continue our learning so that the spring becomes a time to enjoy the fruits of our horsemanship labor instead of the same old month long brush up. Fall and winter riding is what propels us beyond where we ended up at the end of summer so that the following summer finds us closer to achieving our goals. Our fall clinic series at our home place in Orland has always been a favorite time for us. The pace is low key, the weather beautiful, the horses are rode down and ready to learn. At the time of this post we still have openings in our October home clinic series. We invite you to join us in the program that’s time tested and true. Credit cards accepted. Please email for a paypal invoice. Gearing up to head back to Montana for our late summer/ early fall clinic series up in that beautiful state. First the Columbia Falls Four Day Ranch roping clin...ic then on to Conrad, Montana inside John and Candy Balkenbush’s beautiful indoor facility for two great clinics- a three day ranch roping clinic August 28-30 then a two day advanced roping clinic immediately following in on Aug. 31-Sept. 1. Many folks sign up for both-5 great days of learning. Next summer’s Dave Weaver Branding Clinics require attendance in at least one regular Weaver ranch roping clinic so these Montana clinics are great qualifiers for future branding clinics. Don’t miss the opportunity. Contact 406-278-3569 for details and registration. Photo credit to Mary Williams Hyde, Buckaroo Country See more
