First Tee Greater Sacramento

Thank you Wells Fargo and First Tee for providing the opportunity to pilot the Wells Fargo Hands On Banking program. Participants were educated on where money comes from, how it circulates in the economy, and the importance of of saving, budgeting, and investing in their future. This was a fun, interactive program that was limited to Zoom classes for safety reasons, but with some Good, Better, How feedback, we will be expanding in 2021 to make it even better and more fun. We also started an Investment portfolio challenge that will run until June with a variety of prizes for best performer and best long-term diversity. Thank you to two local Wells Fargo guest speakers; Robert Frye and Kelly Huff. They donated their time and mentorship as they assisted our staff in guiding participants through the world of financial awareness.

Safe! Fun! Successful! Thanks to our great staff and volunteers, that’s how our 2020 US Kids Tour Gand Finale can be summed up. We can’t wait for Spring 2021. Special thanks to tournament director, Brittany O'Bryant, for making the changes necessary to keep everyone safe and having fun!

It has been an honor to work with some great partners as we introduced the game of golf to over 60 young people from 8 different community centers in the Sacramento region. Today’s awards ceremony was the culmination of over two months of hard work and it was all worth it to see the smiles on the kids faces. One more of our Alumni to share with you as your watching the PURE Insurance Championship Impacting The First Tee. For Taryn Yee, playing in the PURE Insurance Championship was the first major goal she set for herself and accomplished on her own merit. Yee claims that she felt like a star when she first arrived at the 2009 PURE Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach. Taryn played with Jim Thorpe, and she says the biggest takeaway was how confident she was at the end of the to...urnament. The PURE Insurance Championship and the lessons she learned there have provided her self-confidence that she carried with her through college and now into her successful career. Taryn was a student-athlete at University of California, Irvine. As a freshman, she was selected to attend the PwC Executive Forum at THE PLAYERS Championship as an alumni opportunity with First Tee. At the event, she met PwC executives, spoke with clients and was introduced to the business industry and public accounting. This experience led to a new goal for Taryn, which was to graduate with an accounting degree and become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). She accomplished that goal, which ultimately led her to career opportunities at PwC, The Gap, and her current position as a financial analyst at Facebook headquarters. Through setting goals and perseverance, Taryn has been able to stay positive and work through challenges to achieve her goals. I have the confidence that I can accomplish anything. There is no such thing as an intangible goal! #FirstTee

We hope you are enjoying watching the PURE Insurance Championship Impacting The First Tee This is just one of our Alumna Sara Scarlett, First Tee Greater Sacramento, who played in 2011 with Jerry Pate. Being selected for the PURE Insurance Championship is a goal for many First Tee participants. That was definitely the case for alumna Sara Scarlett. She joined First Tee around the same time that she was diagnosed with scoliosis, a curvature of the spine. Sara’s confidence w...as low, and she was struggling to balance her medical needs with the desire to have an active and social childhood. First Tee became her sanctuary a place where she learned the life skills and core values that would ultimately shape her into a confident teenager who always looked on the bright side. In 2011, she played in the PURE Insurance Championship with Jerry Pate. Some of Sara’s favorite memories include chipping in on the 10th hole at Pebble Beach and the motivational talks with her partner. Sara went on to play on the women’s golf team at University of Texas, graduating in 2017. Sara now works for Chevron on the Corporate Affairs team where she works with the local community and nonprofits on Chevron-supported initiatives. John Catlin, First Tee - Greater Sacramento Alum, became the first American since Tiger Woods to win at Valderrama on Sunday, surviving conditions so difficult that he didn't make a birdie in his 4over 75 and held on for a oneshot victory in the Andalucia Masters. Way to go John!!!! We are so proud of you!!
