Valentine’s Day (1/2) I. This is a photo of Edith Taylor’s wedding party. She was married to George Pope Sr. in 1892, and they bought the Pope Estate 29 years later. Her dress was very period-typical, with Queen Victoria popularizing the white wedding dress only a few decades earlier. II. This is the accompanying photo, of George Pope Sr’s wedding party. He was a very successful businessman and operated a shipping company. He also styled his mustache in the handlebar style f...or much of his adult life, very typical of the early 1900’s. #tallachistoricsite #tahoeheritagefoundation #tahoeheritage #cityofslt #history #historicalphotos #blackandwhitephotography #weddingphotography #weddingphotos #historicalfashion #historicalweddingdress #1900s #1900sfashion #southlaketahoecalifornia #southlaketahoe @ Tallac Historic Site
1920’s Chinaware I. These are part of a beautiful set in the Pope House. There are 3 other teacups and it was perfect for afternoon tea for four! It’s a very beautiful and delicate set, displayed in the Pope Dining Room during the summer. II. All of these teacups are from different sets, and all are from the 1920’s. The square one is unusual for the time, but very pretty and unique. The teacup on the right is reminiscent of the Art Deco style, and captures the glamour and e...legance of the period well. Cross-country skiing though the historic pines and buildings at the Tallac Historic Site is one of our favorite winter activities! This is the perfect time to enjoy the views of Lake Tahoe from the Baldwin or Pope Estate. 1920’s Chinaware I. This beautiful glass pitcher and cups are a part of a set; there are four more glasses not pictured. They are a beautiful example of Art Deco style, with the dramatic arches. Perfect for afternoon iced tea or water, and the gilt around the rim is a subtle display of wealth. These dishes are accessioned, and found to have been from the 1920’s! II. This set of dishes comes from a very large chinaware that could serve lunch, dinner, or tea for 8-10 people. ...This is what the Pope family used for casual meals in the 1930’s; a Pope descendant identified them a few years ago. The cheery and bright colors would have been perfect served with a salad from the garden! #tallachistoricsite #tahoeheritagefoundation #tahoeheritage #1920s #1920sdishes #1920sglassware #artdeco #artdecoglassware #artdecochinacabinet #historicaldishes #historical #teatime #aesthetictea #aestheticglasses #southlaketahoe #cityofslt #laketahoe #history #historyfacts #popehouse @ Tallac Historic Site
Winter at the Tallac Historic Site is beautiful! We especially love the unique ice that can form along the shoreline. Did you know that Lucky Baldwin acquired the land that is now the Baldwin Estate in 1880? It’s where the Tallac Hotel once attracted wealthy guests looking to relax on the shore of Lake Tahoe. 1920’s Music (2/2) Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue. Performed by Sally and Tommy this summer at the Pacheco Cabin on a banjo and ukulele. This song was first recorded in 1925 by The California Ramblers. It remains an enduring symbol of the jovial 1920’s and a popular song! #tallac #tallachistoricsite #tahoeheritagefoundation #tahoeheritage #cityofslt #southlaketahoecalifornia #1920s #1920sfashion #1920sstyle #1920sculture #1920smusic #artdecostyle #artdecoarchitecture #tahoehistory #music #oldmusic #tahoesnaps #tahoesouth #tahoeweekly #tahoesummer #greatgatsby #greatgatsbyparty
