Announcing our readers for next Thursday’s Take Place! Neha Bagchi and Lillian Giles will be reading on September 24 at 6 PM!! DM us for the link! Neha Bagchi translates poetry from Hindi and Bengali into English, and is working on a guide to translation for beginners. She is also working on a polyphonic novel set in pre-9/11 New York. When no one is looking, secretly in the dark of night, she writes questionable poetry and cheesy songs. Lillian Giles is a Black Queer w...riter and educator living in Oakland, California. She holds a BA in literature and is currently earning an MFA in Creative Writing at San Francisco State. Lillian is finishing a novel that is based on her great grandmother’s life as a midwife and defender of the 1940s Black Queer nonbinary community. It is fiction but all of those stated parts are true. Lillian has been published in The Rumpus, awarded the Joe Brainard writing fellowship in fiction and was a finalist for the Audre Lorde award in poetry. You can reach or follow her on Instagram @bsidereadin See more
"let’s say my husband, third in the lineage, leaves me for a bimbo from the studio, such a cliché, and I get drunk and high and stay drunk and high for a while after he leaves for Reno..." Great reading list.
Join us on Tuesday, June 16 at 6:30pm. We will be facilitating a space for our creative writing community to share their rage, sadness and struggles in the face of continuing violence and oppression against Black people in the United States. We stand with Black Lives Matter and commit to continuing to center Black voices and the voices of other marginalized communities in our events. We commit to fighting ingrained white supremacy in our society, in our own institution and in our CW program at SFSU. We will continue to learn, listen and support anti-racism in our community.
