Meet Heather Harrison! Thanks to a generous grant from the Sonoma Valley Catalyst Fund, the Ed Foundation has been able to help the school district provide a family technology support helpline so families can receive personalized assistance with their Chromebooks, hotspots, and more. We spoke with Heather Harrison, the new bilingual technician, about how this program is making an impact. How to stay positive A perspective by Angela Ryan, PhD: Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been visiting our preschool classes on Zoom, observing tireless educators leading their eager students in songs, lessons, projects and activities. It’s truly inspiring to see the children actively participating, taking turns, grasping new concepts, and navigating the mute button. Your support has made all of this possible - thank you. #sonomastudents #sonomaschools #sonomateachers #teachersrock ##staypositive #hanginthere #tuesdaythoughts #thankyou #gratitude

Sonoma Valley Preschools are doing great things! "T is for Tea Party"
There's some exciting news coming out of the SVHS Video Arts Department! Funding from the Sonoma Valley Education Foundation and the generous support of the Manitou Fund have allowed Peter Hansen (who has been teaching Video Arts at SVHS for 18 years!) to create sophisticated at-home learning for 140 high school students in four beginning video classes and one advanced video class. They have established a "mini-TV studio" that allows an engaging and interactive instructional... atmosphere. SVUSD purchased a district license for WeVideo, and editing software that is a game changer for Chromebook use! This distance learning technology allows full screen, one-to-one, multi-camera tutorials of advanced level software and other presentations, similar to a TedTalk. See student videos here: www.svhsvideo.com Video projects are short and cover pertinent themes like voting rights, wearing masks, isolation, friendships and family. Enjoy! #mondaymotivation #monday #sonoma #sonomaschools See more
From SVHS College & Career Center: TONIGHT we are pairing up with 10,000 Degrees and SRJC to host Financial Aid night, TONIGHT, Thursday, October 22nd from 6-8 pm. Also, colleges are visiting us from all over the US as college representatives can visit us via Zoom. We had a great turnout for our virtual 4-year College Night for Seniors, presented in English and Spanish simultaneously last week. Finally, instead of our fall college application work sessions in the CCC, we are meeting virtually. These work sessions will ramp up as deadlines approach. SVHS Seniors make the best of a funky year: "For me, this year has been a really transformative time because it's made me reevaluate my life and what's important to me. I've been able to have more time for volunteering and art and am thankful because I've seen how the community can come together in the midst of tough times" - Elsa Winter #thursdaythoughts #SVHS #Sonoma #senioryear2021 #classof2021
