WOODBURY UNIVERSITY PRESENTS: Urban Green Interventions! Woodbury University ... Spring 2013 INDS 3713 Fridays 9-11:30 AM Instructors: Barry Talley/Ani Okassian OBJECTIVE: UGI focuses on expanding the role of university students in the community through a series of educational and hands-on interventions, placing the university student in the role of educator, facilitator, and project manager. Working in the field to advocate for better water + energy practices, UGI interventionists will undertake a semester long curriculum with client middle schools, focusing on water and energy better practices in the reduction of Green House Gas emissions. Interventionists will conduct research on the naturally occurring environmental processes in southern California proposing an alternative praxis. Based on research, readings, and analysis performed under the supervision of Barry Talley and Ani Okassian, Interventionists will put theory into practice, visualize data, and incorporate these lessons into a practicum/curriculum. Interventionists will work alongside our non-profit partners, Arid Land Institute and Tree People, with the semesters work ultimately culminating in the installation of their proposed solutions with their client middle school students and supporting community. This is a great opportunity for those students interested in project management, education, and networking.
