Seventy-six years ago today marks the beginning of the Battle of Leyte Gulf, which is often cited as the largest naval battle of World War II. The battle was not a single engagement, but a series of scattered battles across an area of more than 100,000 square miles of sea. Job well done USS Roosevelt Completes First Forward-Deployed Naval Forces-Europe Patrol USS Roosevelt (DDG 80) returned to Naval Station Rota, Spain, followi...ng the completion of its first Forward-Deployed Naval Forces-Europe patrol in the U.S. 6th Fleet (C6F) area of operations. Roosevelt and crew successfully completed all tasking during this inaugural patrol, said Cmdr. Ryan Kendall, commanding officer. Roosevelt executed three named operations, high-end Anti-submarine warfare (ASW) training with five other nations and submarines, and travelled from the 76th Parallel in the High North to the Eastern Mediterranean Sea and Black Sea. Last week, USS STOUT (DDG 55) returned home after the longest consecutive period at sea in the history of the modern Navy. During this pandemic, we ask a lot of... our Sailors and our families. It’s not business as usual for any of us, but the amazing young Americans on STOUT stepped up and exceeded our every expectation. STOUT Sailors are Tough, Resilient, Self-Sufficient and Ready.
