Lawsuit Filed to Stop DWR’s Blank Check for a Delta Tunnel: Restore the Delta statement Tim Stroshane, Policy Analyst, Restore the Delta said: DWR put the ca...rt before the horse. There is no final Delta tunnel plan, no environmental impact report, no permit from the State Water Resources Control Board, and no Federal permits. They don’t even have a Federal partner for the project. They don’t know which route the tunnel will be built through, and they do not have a finalized community mitigation plan. Worse, they don’t know how much water will be available to move through the tunnel. We were promised a proper process this time around for planning with the single tunnel. But this premature move to secure unlimited funding during the COVID-19 pandemic is just more of the same old shenanigans we have seen over the years from the Department of Water Resources in regard to the tunnel. The tunnel is a project that Californians continue to reject, including most recently Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetii, because it is too costly and produces no new water. With drought looming once again, climate change caused fires, and financially strapped municipal water districts throughout the state, the tunnel makes less sense than ever.

One of the Suisun Marshes oldest clubs burned down yesterday. The Cavanaugh’s club located on the edge of Wheeler Island and Van Sickle burned to the ground with luckily no one injured. Some of the family’s pictures were rescued from many generations who have hunted and vacationed at the 1940s era cabin. Cause is not know but possibly electrical.

Solano County OES Volunteers Conduct Search in Delta Waters On Tuesday, October 6th, a Sacramento driver and their vehicle went missing in the Delta. A locatio...n was identified where a vehicle had entered the Sutter Slough near the intersection of Oxford and Holland Roads. The Suisun City Fire Department Dive Team and Courtland Fire Department conducted an unsuccessful search of the area near the entry point on Friday, October 9th. The following Saturday, October 10th, Solano County OES volunteers arrived on scene with M-90, a landing craft/dive platform with sophisticated sonar equipment and operators. The vehicle’s location was pinpointed using side scan sonar twenty feet from the entry point in fifteen feet of water. On Sunday, the Marine Vessel Operators Group returned to the site with the Solano County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team to recover the vehicle. Within a minute of entering the water, the diver found the vehicle and quickly confirmed the license plate matched the missing vehicle report. It is with a heavy heart to say that the driver was found inside. Out of respect, the victim's identity will remain anonymous until the family has been contacted. The team was able to successfully connect tow cables and where able to remove the victim and the vehicle from the Slough. The 11-hour operation was conducted by volunteers with the Solano County OES and led by Sheriff’s Sergeant Walt Walker. Our heart goes out to the victim's family, and we give thanks to the volunteers for giving up their weekend to provide closure to this tragic accident.
