Giddy is 4 years old today. Pls give a shout out or send a card or send doggy treats (ha) to Gideon. He is the reason my dog training has changed. If you folllow my dog training he has impacted some of you out there in one way or another. I was Giddy's 5th owner when he was 9 months old. I am sure he has missed some imprinting stages as well as had some remote collar work that needed some changes. He is one of the most difficult dogs that I have trained. He is not perfect and... still has some issues but helps me with every dog that comes in for training. He is part of my dog pack that helps in dog socialization. He is usually the 3rd dog I introduce during any board and train program. What works with other dogs doesn't work with Giddy. So I learned to pivot. I learned to adjust. I learned to use game play and pressure in ways that I previously had not used. Giddy is a very powerful Doberman. He is a level 2 on the remote but can go hi witout effect.. He is hard headed but sweet. If have severe nick names for him. Some I can't say here. Some of those nick names are bird brain, clown, fat head, meatball, knuckle head, dork, spaz, muscle head, dinosaur and Jersey Boy to name a few. Giddy changed my dog business. He changed me as a dog trainer. He made me a better dog trainer. He is my dog. I flew him from Florida to be with my pack. Creeper is his real brother. A brother from the same mother. Just a different litter and about 2 years younger. Now that Giddy is 4, he is making me realize that we all are aging. We need to enjoy life together. We need to take some time and give one on one time to our dogs. Giddy thrives on one on one time. He is a huge lap dog if you let him be. He loves to patrol the property while outside. He is on duty indoors when I am not home. He even joins Sasha and Creeper in a daily howl session that lasts about a minute when no one is home. Happy birthday big boy. Daddy loves you. I'm glad we found each other. #rescuedog #rescue #thedogchooseme #dogrehab #dogs #doberman #dogsocialization #sandiegodogtrainer #escondidogodogtrainer #northcountydogtrainer #carlsbaddogtrainer #vistadogtraainer #temeculadogtrainer

This is Juniper. We have been working with her on several fronts. She has been introduced to a new language. Their owners now have tools to help even the playing field. We have taught the owners tips, tricks and techniques to improve Junipers walk. She is overcoming issues with dog reactivity, barking, pulling on the leash and calmness. It's not a race people. It's a marathon. Your in it for the long haul. Nothing happens quickly. Just strive for little bits of improvements.... Be consistent. BE CONSISTENT! Dogs think in pictures so paint your picture crystal clear. Show your dog what you want. Disagree with your dog's poor choices. We teach you how to do that with the leash and or the remote collar. Your teaching your dog what you like and don't like. Now don't forget to go play with your dog. GO PLAY with your dog. That's what they like. It will make you feel good. #cattledog #structuredk9training #sandiegodogtrainer #escondidogodogtrainer #vistadogtraainer #sanmarcosdogtrainer #oceansidedogtrainer #ecollar #remotecollar #dogs #puppy #placecommand #kenneltraining #prongcollars See more

Cloey graduated our 3 week B&T. She was one of the more challenging dogs we had due to her major dog reactivity. What did we do to help her with her dog reactivity? We set up real world scenarios. We implemented tools and applied some training techniques. We kept her threshold down by knowing her triggers, created clarity, established leadership, made behaviors non negotiable, created a common language and more. There is no one right answer for each dog problem. You have to... work the dog in front of you to find out what works and what doesn't work. You need options and tools to take out of your magical kit bag. Stay calm, be confident, show your dog you got it and can handle it. Now go train your dog. If you need help, seek out a competent trainer. Have fun. #dogrehab #dogs #pitbull #bullybreed #dogaggression #remotecollar #puppy #structuredk9training #sandiegodogtrainer #escondidodogtrainer #vistadogtrainer #vista #sanmarcos #dogbehavior See more

I finally got Cloey to play tug with me. She is hesitant to compete with me over a resource. I finally broke the ice with her. I wish I would have been able to play with her sooner. She goes home this weekend. I hope her owners continue game play. Its a good release. Its a competitive game. The game of play will open up her personality.

Cheyenne snapped this photo. Nice shot! Here is Cloey shopping at Home Depot. She graduates the B&T this weekend. The training does not stop. Every single interaction with your dog is a training moment. Its important her owners pick up where we left off. When she gets home, the rules should stay the same. We developed a language that she understands. She now has boundaries, structure and limitations on how she acts in the human world. Thats true either at Uncle Elias' house... or her home. Her owners need to hold her accountable for all of her actions. If you let things go unchecked 20% of the time, then you will have a dog that listens only 80% of the time and does what it wants the other 20%. There will be easy days and there will be hard days. Just take one day at a time and be fair but consistent. #bullybreed #dogrehab #dogs #puppy #pitbull #structuredk9training #sandiegodogtrainer #escondidodogtrainer #remotecollar See more

Out in town with Cloey. We have to revisit her triggers (other dogs) and make those encounters not such a big deal. Here we are with Ivan from #Riverstaylorshop. We always visit Ivan when we have a Board & Train. If your in North County make sure you stop by at his shop off of Grand Ave. Really nice guy. Great Taylor. He is located in Escondido. Off we go for more training. #dogrehab #dogreactivity #pitbull #bullybreed ... #structuredk9training #sandiegodogtrainer #escondidodogtrainer #remotecollar #ecollartrainer #playwithyourdog #positivefirst See more

Here is a picture of Cloey. She is eating dog food now not people food. She lost a few pounds and is looking good. She clearly wants to get out of the sun. Today, we did a walk w Cloey. It's coming along nicely. We passed another dog but gave about 10 feet of room.(intentionally revisiting the red zone that activates her reactivity) This is the zone Cloey thinks she needs to handle business in. We remind her "out" and keep moving. Dont stop. Stopping allows the dog to load up... with naughty thoughts. Give them something to do and try to maintain the heel position. Most importantly, don't become animated, dont give a shit ton of leash corrections. Dont make the encounter a big deal. That means you as the owner, try to show little energy and dont raise your voice and become overly dramatic. If that is you, YOU are part of the problem. Bully breeds like conflict. If you jack that leash, freak out, yell, and the other dog does the same, you just fed the dogs a bunch of cookies and rewarded that dog. You gave the dog what it wanted. CONFLICT. Stop doing that for your reactive dog. Keep moving, train that out and pre stage that remote on a higher level as you approach. When the dog looks more then 2-3 seconds, give the OUT command.. If the dog doesn't OUT, repeat OUT, give a remote collar tap. If the dog doesn't comply, roll up on the remote and repeat the command.. If the dog doesn't comply you can keep moving and gain distance away from the other dog. If you don't have a remote you can do this on a prong or a carefully timed flat buckle, or slip leash pop. #reactivedog #bullybreed #pitbull #remotecollar #dogtraining #dogs #sandiegodogtrainer #escondidodogtrainer

Its about 100 outside, sheesh. Us Dobies don't like da heat. Here is Gideon after his Pedi and Mani. Lol, something like that. He use to be a train wreck when it came to using the Dremel. I make sure I have a leash on, quick stop blood clotter, a mask, and eye pro. The dust from the dog nails is not good for you. Maybe someone who reads this and knows more can chime in. Also, I give him feedback during the nail trim. I hold his paw as the dremel is on and as long as he doesn...'t pull back I say GOOD, and pay him. Today it was with cheese. Provolone to be exact. If they pull their paw away from you dont allow it and I say, UH-UH in a calm voice.. Dont get up set. Just gently keep their paw in your lap or on the bed. When they stop pulling mark it with GOOD, then you can reward. I like to grab the individual nail firmly at the last digit and dremel it. At first I would feed/reward on every nail. Now I reward when I am done with the paw. Use a higher pitch voice. Dont say good or yes in a deep tone because it could come across more of an adversive if you say it that way. At the end, I reward with the rest of the cheese thats left over. Each time the know they are getting a trim and look forward to the reward. Questions?.... #dogs #doberman #rescue #adopted #dogrehab #escondidodogtrainer #sandiegodogtrainer #playistheway #remotecollar #puppy
