All about the cabinets this winter; and whether choosing to refinish and brighten up (or darkening depending on surrounding home elements), a lovely n...ew appearance and feel is always a great change. This home has a lot of various wood species and styles going on, quite the norm for the 80s homes; but not for today’s home themes. * * * The homeowners will be slowly updating this Tahoe Donner home over the next year, and wanted to start in the kitchen. Next will be countertops, bathrooms and kitchen floors, and painting all wood trim and doors throughout home. Excited to see the transformations in the near future * * * For now, refinishing those old brown cabinets with #kellymoore Frost (75%) was the decision. Blends well with the surrounding wall color, the knotty pine ceiling above, and the current home furnishings. Adds more character to this kitchen, and much easier on the eyes. Definitely tones down the overly wooded theme of the house as well. Homeowners are longtime clients, of over 20 years, and are delighted with this portion of the project. Finalized the last bathroom cabinets in this home (last 3 photos) today I completed the master bathroom, and cabinets, back in 2017 (first 6 photos). Huge dif...ference and feels from those drab ol brown-orange cabinets, to the modernized Kendall Charcoal by #benjaminmoore. * * * Extremely happy to be finalizing the last few areas of interior trim (located at newly replaced French and side doors), within the next month. Since 2016 I have been working with a dear friend (owner) on this home, in both color and design consultation. I am gratified to have been a part of this full home beautification-renovation. There are some floors, countertops and tile work which will be updated in the future, but so much has been completed to date. A true makeover success! Winter projects always include refinishing cabinets. Those old oak cabinets gotta go! Timely for the late 80s and 90s, not the trend for coming into 2021. R...efinishing cabinets often are more cost effective for homeowners, rather than refacing or replacing an entire home cabinet scheme. * * * A few different styles: The smaller piece... deciding on color and the stain transparency over the old oak finish. A simple gray wash, a darker wash; or an opaque finish to be desired. * * Large piece: decision on which paint/ stain wash application is desired. Second photo: #benjaminmoore #simplywhite application over existing finish; followed by a gray wash by #samanstains #ironearth. Third photo: Same paint application; followed by one coat of stain wash (left side) and two coats (right side), and then sanded down for an antiqued finish after all coatings are dry. If you zoom in on this photo, the sanded edges are more apparent.
