So far, in everything I have read, there is no exception to the rule about donations from individuals to other individuals in need that would make the donation tax deductible. So, if your concern is to get a tax deduction for helping out, you best bet is to donate to North Valley Community Foundation or Soroptimists, These organizations are qualified charities that can give funds to support individuals in the community and you can get the tax deduction. If anyone knows of an exception, please site the IRS code section and/or regulation. Don’t tell me that you read it somewhere. I would need to have a specific reference.
Our office will be open this Saturday, April 6 from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. You can contact us at (530) 893-8761.
Really good information about what to expect when FEMA arrives. Read below.
If a job was lost due to the #CampFire, one qualifies for Disaster Unemployment. Contact the EDD using this link. https://www.edd.ca.gov//Disaster_Unemployment_Assistance.h
Friends and colleagues affected by the #CampFire, here are some Practical Advice and Emergency Tips that we have gathered throughout our experience representing wildfire victims: Prioritize: In the immediate aftermath, your focus should be on: ... 1. Taking care of yourself, children, family, spouse 2. Securing housing/emergency shelter 3. Opening a claim with your insurance company Things to Do While Evacuated: Register at shelters, with the Red Cross, FEMA, and other agencies. They will then have a point of contact for you. Get a P.O. Box and forward all mail there. Use this as the mailing address for all the forms you fill. Call your homeowners' or rental insurance to trigger "loss of use" coverage. This coverage will get you access to funds for essentials. See our insurance tips flyer for more helpful info: https://www.norcalfirelawyers.com//Camp-Fire-Insurance-Tip Save your receipts. You may be able to recover incidental costs from your insurer as well. Never give anyone original copies of your receipts. Start searching for a long-term rental if you will need one. If you coordinate with your insurer, they may be able to make payments directly. Stay safe! #campfire #chicofire #paradisefire #paradisestrong #paradiseproud
Our sympathies go out to everyone effected by the #CampFire in Paradise and Magalia and all the surrounding areas. Our office will be closed all day to attend to emergency needs of our family and friends. Stay safe out there and rest assured, all your financial information is safe and sound.

The FTB is sending requests to confirm tax return filing. Due to a dramatic rise in returns that look like potential identity theft, the FTB is issuing more Forms FTB 3904, Request to Confirm Tax Return Filing. These notices are being sent if the FTB highly suspects the likelihood of identity theft. The FTB recommends calling the number immediately on the form if you receive this notice: (916) 843-6124. The FTB employee will help validate the taxpayer filed the return. The FTB is also sending Forms FTB 4734D, Request for Tax Information and Documents, when there is a question as to the taxpayer's identity. Call our office if you have additional questions.

The IRS is warning taxpayers and practitioners that there is a new scam using fraudulent CP2000's to solicit money from taxpayers. The fraudulent forms look convincing and show balances due that are small enough that taxpayers just might pay rather than arguing the point. Upon closer inspection, these forms have telltale signs of fraud. Please be sure to run any IRS or FTB notices by us before paying it, so that we can ensure it is not a scam.
Attention QuickBooks users: Don't forget to do regular QB backups (.qbb). We recommend performing backups on a weekly basis. Contact our office if you questions or don't know how to do a QB backup.
