Dear Parishioners and friends of St. Joseph the Worker, I hope this Easter message finds you all well and at peace. Although we have not been able to come together physically as a parish community, nevertheless we remain very spiritually connected through our unified prayer and through our shared baptism in Jesus Christ. The joyful and hope-filled message I would like to express this Easter is that despite our current situation and our personal circumstances, we can still ce...lebrate and rejoice in the wonderful work and ministry of the Risen Lord and His Church continues; Masses continue to be offered throughout the world for the salvation of the world. Priests, deacons and religious throughout the world are praying the Liturgy of the Hours on behalf of God's people. Selfless cloistered religious continue sacrificing and praying for all of us. Evangelization and Church teaching continues via the internet, television and other publications. The Sacraments of Baptism, Confession, Anointing of the sick and even Marriage (if need be) are still being made available by the Catholic Church. (In fact, recently I prepared two of our dear parishioners for their journey home to Heaven with the Anointing of the Sick, Absolution and bestowing the Apostolic Pardon before their death). Catholic charitable services continue and many faithful Catholics are reaching out to the vulnerable and elderly. Catholic burial, a corporal act of mercy, continues. Faithful Catholics everywhere continue with their worship of God through prayer and with faithful devotion. And the "home church" experience has become even a greater blessing for many families. There is much to be grateful for. This Easter Sunday Gospel has Mary of Magdala, Peter and John finding an empty tomb. It is a Gospel account filled with angst, confusion and a hope in the unimaginable. However they will soon encounter the Risen Lord. There are some of us, although, who know it's Easter, yet feel an angst and confusion and maybe even sadness in their hearts in dealing with spiritual, health, relationship and financial issues. We all want the Lord to take away all our suffering and difficulties. However, God wants to do something even greater. He wants to use our limitations, our weaknesses, and our hurts to transform us and maybe even transform those most close to us. Each of us is carrying a burden or burdens that may be known only to us and to God. On this very unique Easter Day and Season, let us acknowledge and even accept our burdens offering them to God, and asking Him to make His Glory known through them as we pray "Jesus, I trust in you." Please know that my Easter Sunday Mass is being offered for all of you. May God bless you and your loved ones with health, peace and the gift of Christian Hope- Happy Easter! Yours in the Risen Lord, Fr. Kenneth Nobrega

Message from Fr. Kenneth Nobrega Saturday, March 21, 2020 Dear parishioners and friends of St. Joseph,... I pray all of you are doing well as we adjust to this current situation. These past four days have been rather intense and busy for me personally in my addressing emails, making and taking phone calls and dealing with my deliverance ministry and office issues, etc. Today I began looking into a contact service called FLOCKNOTE that will allow me to quickly communicate with you and send parish update notices, via text, emails, etc. I am also planning on offering Drive thru confessions in our church parking lot and perhaps such things such as Benediction Blessings with the Holy Sacrament. On Monday morning I am scheduled to have a conference call with Bishop Barber and some other priests to discuss pastoral, liturgical and financial issues and perhaps will have more clarity and direction on how best to move forward in the near future. If you would like to be included in receiving messages from me and our parish church thru Flocknote group Text messaging, please email me your name and cell phone numbers. And if you know anyone else who may want to be included in our communications please ask them to email me their email address and cell phone numbers as well. One other thing, PLEASE, PLEASE sign up for electronic giving for your weekly tithing and donations thru our Pushpay electronic gift giving service. Its quick and easy to do thru the donation tab on our website or via Text giving: 77977. Please consider encouraging your friends and fellow parishioners to sign up as well because we" at St. Joseph the Worker are on our own financially and cannot count on being bailed out by the Diocese for financial support. We’ve struggled too hard and achieved too much as a parish church to let this situation beat us down. The most difficult or rather the saddest time of the day for me personally has been offering the daily Holy Sacrifice of the Mass alone in our church knowing that people are out there but can’t attend Mass. However I continue to bring you along with me spiritually realizing this is all temporary and this too will soon pass. Keep praying and please make a joyful effort in enjoying God’s goodness this weekend. Thank you and may God bless you all! Fr. Kenneth Nobrega

IMPORTANT NOTICE! Dear Parishioners and friends of St. Joseph the Worker, In collaboration with local Bay Area officials, and in service to the common good of our communities and our country, the Diocese of Oakland under the direction of Bishop Michael Barber has suspended all public Masses. All other events at parishes and schools are to be postponed, rescheduled or cancelled until further notice. The diocese chancery office has been closed with some staff working from hom...e. Because we are unable to continuously clean and sanitize the church per CDC guidelines regarding the virus and out of concern for our parishioners and for the good of public health in not wanting to contribute to the possible spread of the virus, St. Joseph the Worker will unfortunately be closed for the time being until further notice. At the recommendation of the diocese our parish office will also be closed but you may leave a message at (510) 843-2244 for urgent needs. While public Masses with the faithful are not permitted, please know that I will be offering a private daily Mass at St. Joseph the Worker church and will be bringing you along with me spiritually. (Previously scheduled Mass intentions will be honored and offered). And although parish Masses are suspended, please kindly continue to support St. Joseph the Worker as you are able to do so with your ongoing Sunday tithing/donations via mail, website donation tab or text 77977 as this health crisis is also a hardship for our parish church. Your support and generosity during this time is appreciated. Thank you. Our current situation with the uncertainty of it all is making this a Lenten season to remember. Prayer is essential in order to go through this trial with peace and confidence in the Lord. Remember the great quote from Saint Padre Pio; "Pray, hope, and don't worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer." Please keep me in your daily prayers as I pray for you. Fr. Kenneth Nobrega
