Home visits are magic Did you know that midwives are trained in well-newborn care? After your birth, the Santa Barbara Midwives do four home visits in the first two weeks. At these visits we assess the health and well-being of both mom and baby, provide breastfeeding and emotional support, and share resources to enhance your postpartum experience. The best part is that the whole family is involved! #sbmidwifery #postpartumcare #homevisit #sbbirthcenter #midwifery #midwiferycare #newborncare

Informed choice and autonomy are important pillars of midwifery care. We finally had our first baby of 2021 who was delivered via scheduled cesarean for breech presentation by the wonderful @dr_melissa_drake Our clients did their research, knew their choices, and made the brave decision to have a belly birth even though it was far from their original plan. It makes our midwife hearts happy to be a part of this family’s new beginning #sbmidwifery #sbbirthcenter #birthwithoutfear #breechbirth #scienceplusmagic

We are happy to announce that our practice has been joined by Frontier CNM student Brandy Hogg-Duncan RN, MSN, FNP-C. She has a wide range of experience in nursing, both in clinical practice and in teaching. She brings experience in primary and emergency care as well as OB and pediatrics. She is now focusing on midwifery and we are happy to help her gain the necessary experience to become a certified nurse-midwife. The art and skill of midwifery has always been passed down fr...om one midwife to another, for the most part through the apprenticeship model. Each one of our midwives benefitted from this process. We hope you will welcome Brandy as part of the team. You can expect to see her at your upcoming visits. Of course any hands-on interaction she has will be with your permission only. Thank you for supporting this ancient tradition. Love, the Midwives Welcome Brandy! See more

It’s #givingtuesday and we need your help! Santa Barbara Birth Center was created as a non-profit to support the birthing people of our community and give access to midwifery care for those in need of financial assistance. Due to the increased need this year has required, our subsidy fund is almost gone. Please consider supporting love this holiday season by donating to help families that deserve the compassionate, comprehensive, loving care of midwives. ... In the midst of the turmoil, isolation and uncertainty that have pervaded all of our lives this year, the sweet babies keep coming and fill us with joy and hope. In 2020 we had more births and far more requests for discounts and subsidies than usual. In response we awarded subsidies for the Birth Center fee for low-income families, and gave a reduced midwifery fee to women of color, Covid-related hardships and late transfer situations. By the end of this month, our Birth Ce...nter subsidy fund will be empty. Please consider a gift to support our continued accessibility to the community, as our services are needed more than ever. In times like this, SB Birth Center is uniquely positioned to help. More women need an option for safe birth outside the hospital, and the overburdened hospitals need their non-emergent patient burdens decreased. Midwives are a critical part of the solution. The Birth Center continues to offer virtual and socially-distanced in-person prenatal, postpartum and father's groups, offering a much-needed sense of community. In addition, the SB Birth Center offers women the option to have a vaginal birth after a c-section (VBAC) which is not currently an option at our local hospital. Now more than ever, we ask for your support. Our midwives show up. We connect and care for every client as a precious individual, deserving of all the love, education and intimate care we offer, as always. We proudly serve all these babies entering this crazy world to ensure they’re born in the safest, most gentle and loving way possible. We are here for them, we are not going anywhere, and with your help, we will continue to serve as many families as we can. To donate, please see the link in our bio. With love, Laurel Phillips President, SB Birth Center @mamathreebirds

Hey friends, does anyone out there have a used tablet or iPad (or even MacBook Air) that you no longer need? The midwives need one for our electronic charting during births that will live at the birth center and be at the ready. All it really needs to be able to do is get online, and a keyboard (which we could find separately). Thanks! the midwives

You’re cleared to return to exercise! Now what? Take the guesswork out of returning to exercise with Dr. Erin Foster, an orthopedic physical therapist who specializes in training pregnant and postpartum women. Erin has two young boys of her own (the youngest was born in early June!) and will be running a zoom exercise class starting in August, focusing on the early postpartum period. This program will focus first on your recovery and rebuilding of strength for everyday activ...ities (because it’s HARD to do everything one-handed while carrying around that sweet babe all the time!) and helping to work towards your goals of returning to your preferred activities (be that chasing your kiddos, hiking, biking, running, HIIT, Crossfit, etc). Spots will be limited to 5 participants to ensure a small community feel and enable Erin to provide in depth movement analysis and live feedback for each participant. Classes will be once weekly, either Tuesday or Thursday AM. Babies are welcome! Includes: One-on-one initial evaluation prior to the start of classes with specific movement analysis and personalized goal setting 6 weeks of hour-long zoom classes, programming by Erin in collaboration with local pelvic floor physical therapist, Dr. Christine Pieton Weekly follow-up emails regarding goals and key things to remember (because mom-brain and sleep deprivation fog are REAL!) Group chat for fostering that all important new-mama camaraderie This class is focused on the early postpartum period or returning to exercise following a prolonged off-period. If you feel that you are beyond this early return to exercise period, but would like more guidance on specific return-to-sport activities, or an exercise group for postpartum women with a higher intensity, send Erin an email! Want to sign up? Other questions? Contact: Dr. Erin Foster Email: [email protected] Website: https://fosterfitnessphysicaltherapy.com/ IG: @fosterfitnesspt

We are sharing this offer that came along. Sounds fun and useful! "Hello. My name is Kris and I teach baby sign language in the Charlotte area. In response to the social distancing I created an online course. This is a one-time class for $30 intended for families with babies 0-24 months of age. It includes two lessons (over 50 signs and two songs) and the students will have lifetime access to the videos/course content. Signing with babies helps boost their brain development, reduces frustrations and much more. I would love families to know that this resource is available."
