Stillman Sound

Recently helped my good friend Sean Hayes with a bit of mastering for a series of songs that he is calling Prototypes. Which is essentially a collection of song ideas that he recorded in his garage... they may or may not be tracked with a band and polished up down the road but they exist in this interesting form for now which you can listen to (if you know where to look). This one I particularly like.

The Gefell UM70 is one of my favorite mics in our locker. The original company name was George Neumann & Company Gefell. Gefell being the name of the town that Georg Neumann fled during #WWII when a bomb destroyed his factory. Georg began a new factory in Berlin which led to the famous Neumann microphones we know and love today. The Gefell factory was later restored but ultimately separated from Neumann when the Berlin Wall was erected in 61. The Gefell factory was the originator of the revered M7 capsule, utilized in the early editions of famous mics like the U47. The M7 is still manufactured by Gefell today, as far as I know Gefell is the only company actively making these infamously difficult yet musical capsules. This mic here utilizes one that was recently re-skinned by Thiersch in Germany where it all began. #history
