Join Djordje Vuckovic and Coby Dulitzki for a review session this Wednesday in AOERC 111. 7-8 pm will be Rumba and Cha-cha with Coby 8-9 pm will be Quickstep with Djordje... This will be a great opportunity to review the material, ask questions, and even get a preview of upcoming material. The reviews will be taught based on the participants' preferences. NOTE: If you haven't been to the classes yet, the review sessions are a great way to hop in and catch up on material that was taught.

Class today will be in AOERC 111.
Welcome to the official competitive ballroom contingent on campus!! For the Fall 2019 quarter, classes will be taught by professional, world-champion dance coaches: 'Ikaika Dowsett (Standard Ballroom) and Stacey Chuang (Latin Ballroom) -every Sunday evening 5-7 pm- in either AOERC or Roble. Additionally, we will be offering review sessions to allow newcomers to practice at a more informal setting led by advanced competitive ballroom students -every Wednesday evening 7-9 pm- ...in AOERC. ----- Competitive ballroom dancing, or DanceSport, is an internationally recognized form of partner dance. The very same steps you learn here are identical to the steps practiced in ballrooms around the world. ----- In DanceSport, there are a number of levels. For the first few years of your DanceSport career, you will begin in the Amateur division, which is further broken up into the following categories: Newcomer Bronze Silver Gold With the exception of the newcomer division, which times-out after the first year of competition, you progress through the 'levels' by accumulating points that are distributed among the finalists (top 7 couples) of each dance per division. ----- The five Standard dances include: - Waltz - Tango - Quickstep - Foxtrot - Viennese Waltz (However, it should be noted that though social waltz and social Viennese waltz have similarities with Standard Ballroom, there is a much greater emphasis on footwork and poise in DanceSport than is usually exercised in a social dancing atmosphere) The five Latin dances include: - Cha-cha - Rumba - Jive - Samba - Paso Doble ----- There are a number of competitions in the Bay area. Though attending classes does not obligate anyone to compete, regular attendance at classes and reviews will prepare any motivated student for competition. There will be organized trips to various competitions around the bay area throughout the year. Everyone is welcome to join us whether as a competitor or spectator. Currently, only enrolled Stanford students are eligible for participation, but we are currently working on changing this policy to allow the greater community to join us. Stay tuned about updates by the end of the fall quarter in December. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the current organizer: Coby Dulitzki. We hope to see you out on the dancefloor soon!
