Stay Thirsty, Friends By SCOTTY SMITH The Spirit and the Bride say, Come. And let the one who hears say, Come. And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price. Rev. 22:17... Lord Jesus, of all the commands you could’ve ended the Bible with, thank you for choosing the one you did. Instead of Do more, try harder, or Get up, buck up, ‘man up’, or Get over it, and get on with it, you chose, Come, thirsty ones. Come and take the free gift of the water of life. Thank you. So, on Groundhog’s Day 2021, we bring our thirsty selves to you, Jesus. Slake our deep thirst with living waterthe liberty-libation of your everlasting love, abiding peace, and heart-fueling hope. For what do we really thirst? We’re thirsty to know you better and better, Jesus. We’re thirsty to be filled with the Holy Spirit afresh. We’re thirsty to be as free, whole, and loving as you will make us. We’re thirsty for the Day of no death, wiped tears, and full joy. We’re thirsty for Wedding Feast of the Lamb, when we’ll never thirst again. We’re thirsty for the Day of no things broken, and all things new. Maybe in 2021, Jesus? So very Amen we pray, in the beauty and bounty of your name.

On Groundhog’s Day Eve- February 1st bySCOTTY SMITH The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty. Ps. 90:10; Even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows. Luke 12:7; You are free live as God’s servant.1 Pet. 2:16... Lord Jesus, on this day last year I was only 70. Now I’m officially in my 70’s. Still a mere youth when I consider my spiritual mom, Rose Marie Miller, is 96. It’s a source of great peace and joy to know providence, not happenstance, numbers our dayseven our hairs. That doesn’t make us fatalists; it means we’re yours, Jesus. Bought, beloved, and bound for a life of all things new. Nothing can snatch us from your hand, or separate us from your love. Jesus, I don’t know if I’m in my last decade, year, or day. But I do know I want to live more free, and more yours. Fill the rest of my days with childlike-wonder of yourself; Spirit-generated gratitude, contentment, and kindness; and a tenacious commitment to live, love, and serve to your glory. Thank you for the Gospel-loving, eternity-thinking friends you’ve given me to finish life with. Keep making your empty tomb, occupied throne, and sure return more real to us than anything else. Everything else will take care of itself. So very Amen I pray, in your magnificent and merciful name.

Our Changeless Father and the Flow of Blessings By SCOTTY SMITH Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created. James 1:17-18... Heavenly Father, I woke up grateful today. I didn’t get an unexpected windfall, but I did suck in a deep breath of Gospel-sanity. No matter what, as your children, we’ll always have more to worship than whine about. On this Saturday, I’m grateful, as James writes, you are our changeless Father. You’re never moody, too busy, or needing to second guess anything. You never have to try anything; you just do as you please. And it was your pleasure to give Jesus to us, and for us. Hallelujah. We’re your grace-adopted children, sovereignly ruled-over kids, eternal-life-gifted family. No stock portfolio can touch that. We sing you’re the Father from whom all blessings flow. A part of that flow includes: Perspective-giving friends A funny-something happening at just the right time A sunny day in a grey-hearted week Old Bible passages bringing new, perfectly-timed hope Music ALL kinds of music Our grandkids voices and giggles The welcome and loyalty of our pets A slice of warm, moist lemon-pound cake The Spirit’s voice declaring our sonship, growing louder than all other noise. Indeed, Father, hope and gratitude are the order of this, and every day. So very Amen I pray, in Jesus’ most glorious and grace-full name.

Deuteronomy 4:2... Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you have had from the beginning; the old commandment is the word that you have heard. 1 John 2:7 God, you gave us your greatest commandment that we should love you with all our hearts, souls, and minds. The second commandment is to love our neighbors as ourselves. Help us to keep these commandments without changing them to suit our needs. Amen.

Eternal Discretion > Any Election Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end. Isa. 9:7 King Jesus, your righteousness is our surety, your love is our freedom, and your sovereignty is our sanity. Only your government and will ever meet the needs of our sinful hearts and restless world. Make this more real to us than ever.... Through your resurrection and ascension, you’ve already been installed as the ruler of kings on earth (Rev. 1:5). King David’s throne has become your throne of grace, from which you are actively ruling the world with your truth and grace. Eternal discretion, not any election, determines our future. Hallelujah. No one and nothing can derail, deter, or distract you from bringing to completion your good work of redemption and restoration. You never promised to do all things acceptable to us, but you have promised to do all things good for us. Forgive us when we get impatient with your timing, doubt your engagement, or don’t like your style.as silly as that sounds. You are the King we always wantedthe King of kings and Lord of lords. Lord Jesus, as the Gospel continues its transforming work in our lives, may it advance through our lives. Free us to show up joyfully, love boldly, and hope patiently. You WILL finish making all things new and beautiful. So very Amen we pray, in your mighty and merciful name. By Scotty Smith - Gospel Coalition Blog

Tuesday, October 27 Psalm 119:97104 2 Samuel 18:3119:30; John 10:1121 How can a man be in the right before God? If one wished to dispute with him, he could not answer him once in a thousand times. Job 9:2,3 NASB... The scribe said to Jesus, You are right, Teacher; you have truly said that ‘he is one, and besides him there is no other’; and ‘to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength,’ and ‘to love one’s neighbor as oneself,’this is much more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, You are not far from the kingdom of God. Mark 12:32-34 God of creationall-knowing Godwe face trials and days when things don’t go the way we want. Help us to know that you are still by our side. You rule the world and know what the future holds for us. We lift our praise to you for being with us during the rough times when we can’t see what our future holds. Amen.

The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:4 Holy Spirit, you are all powerful. There are times we fear circumstances that surround us in our lives, but we know that your power can help us through troubling times. Thank you. Amen. 2021 Moravian Daily Texts

Living Hope in a Stressful World BySCOTTY SMITH Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. 1 Pet 1:3... Heavenly Father, this week could easily devolve into a pool of fear and combativeness, given the issues before uswhether we call the USA or the UK, China or India home. By your grace and for your glory, we choose living hope and great mercy. The issues in Peter’s day were a precursor of ours. Political stressors and cultural pressures abounded. It wasn’t easy to be a follower of Jesus. Yet living hope invaded a decaying world. Jesus’ resurrection was more compelling than the threat of insurrection. May it be so in our hearts, and in the coming weeks as well. Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, give us the same praise and peace that flooded Peter’s heart. May your covenant faithfulness interrupt our constant fearfulness. Turn our worries into worship. Thank you for your unrelenting commitment to reassure us of your love, grace, and sovereignty. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ loving and powerful name.

All That Is Mine Is Yours SCOTTY SMITH Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. Luke 15:31... Heavenly Father, we can’t hear you say these life-transforming words too clearly, often, and loudly. You’re imploring your isolating, angry, self-righteous son to join you, and his younger brother, on the dance-floor of your grace. (From Luke 15 the Parable of the Prodigal Son(s) 2020 has made it easy for us to identify with your rigid, wound-tight, ungrateful child. That’s why you constantly confront our Gospel-amnesia, saying, My daughters and sons, you’re always with me because I’m always with you. Nothing will separate you from my love, exhaust my grace, or deplete my mercies. All that is mine is yours. Your sins are forgiven, your life is hidden in Jesus, and his righteousness yours. It’s officialyou’re citizens of heaven and co-heirs of the new earth. Your sin, sorrows, wounds, and brokenness all have an expiration date. I have you in my heart and no one can take you from my hand. Come, my children, let us rejoice and be glad. Father, no matter who wins the upcoming election, we are secure, enriched, and beloved by our eternal election in Christ (Eph. 1:3-6). Make this unavoidably, heart-freeing-real to us, again. We are so ready to dance. So very Amen we pray, in Jesus’ peerless and praiseworthy name.

Thursday, October 22 Psalm 119:6572 2 Samuel 15:129; John 9:112 You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure. Psalm 39:5 NIV... Our Savior Christ Jesus abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. 2 Timothy 1:10 God, the time we spend on earth is very short. Keep us from worrying about collecting riches on earth and help us remember that our reward comes from Jesus, who conquered death and gave us eternal life. Amen.

Generation Church: South O 08.07.2020

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another on to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Heb. 10:23-25 Lord Jesus, two things stand out in this remarkable passage. We’re called to a lifestyle of hope and encouraging each other. Help us to do both with fierce joy ...and unrelenting tenacity. Because of your empty tomb and occupied throne, we can live with unshakable hope in a very shaky world. Indeed, we live by faith in younot by trusting in pollsters, politicians, and possessionsand other forms of chariots and horses (Psalm 20:7). And because the Day of all things new is drawing near (Rev. 21:1-5), we don’t have to worry about tomorrow today. We can live this October Wednesday with a core of peace and a heart of kindness. So help us be regular and robust in bringing encouragement to each other. Encouragement is always important, but never more so than today. For ours is a day of COVID-fatigue and unprecedented divisiveness, mounting stress and multi-cause duress. Jesus, we purpose to rest in your love, trust in your sovereignty, and love to your glory. So very Amen we pray, in your grace-full and faithful name.

"Loving Well When We Vote Differently" They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus, but Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the brothers to the grace of the Lord. He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches. Acts 15:40-41 Lord Jesus, as this Scripture demonstrates, there are times when your faithful servants don’t see eye to eye. Our best efforts at keeping the unity of the Spirit through the bon...d of peace get stressed, tested, and arrested (Eph. 4:3). Different perspectives generate chilled attitudes, which often escalate to sharp disagreements. Painful words get spoken, emotions ramp up, leading to a parting of ways. Advocates in life begin to relate like adversaries from two different planets. This happens in healthy marriages, among good friends, and in fine churches. Jesus, the closer we get to the U. S. presidential election, the more we see this relationship-stressing drama growing in our midst. As those who belong to you, we’re not all going to vote for the same candidate Nov. 3rd. The issues are big, but you are Bigger. By the power of the Holy Spirit, be the Prince of Peace in our midst, and the Ruler of the kings of the earth to our hearts. Our hope is in you and your kingdom, not in any candidate or platform. On Nov. 4th, no matter which candidate wins, America is likely to be more divided than ever. Our calling to live as citizens of heaven is going to be more critical than ever. Loving as you love us will be essential, not merely important. Help us Jesus. Humble us. Prepare us. So very Amen, we pray, in your triumphant and tender name. by SCOTTY SMITH
