If you answered #2 as the fake firearm, you are correct! Now look at #2 in relation to the same generation (Gen 3) as the real one in the top right picture. They are almost identical. Unfortunately, in the days of 3D printing, we are also seeing working firearms made to look like common items such as cell phones, belt buckles and other household items. The only way to know 100% a firearm is real is when the gun goes off. Unfortunately by then, it is far too late. Thanks for participating! If you like these kind of posts, please let us know! #sltpd #cityofslt

One of these guns was found during a traffic stop after the driver ran from the vehicle. It’s a fake! Can you spot the fake compared to a real one? Answer will be at 5pm today in a follow-up post! Take your time...but remember, the average persons reaction time to a visual stimulus is .25 seconds. Could you tell the difference in .25 seconds? Oh, and it only takes a person wanting to hurt you an average of .38 seconds to fire that gun after initial movement, so, you have .13 seconds to tell the difference before they fire....ready....go. #sltpd #cityofslt

Her parents, Sharon and Gino own G-Pro Construction, but have been unable to work because of their recent exposure to COVID-19 after her great grandfather was admitted to Barton Hospital. We hope this surprise brings some happiness and normalcy on your birthday! October is National Pedestrian Safety Month and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department encourages the public to remember that everyone is a pedestrian. The number of pedestrians killed has grown by about 50% over the past decade, with 6,283 pedestrians killed in traffic crashes nationwide in 2018, or one traffic-related pedestrian death every 84 minutes. Excess speed, poor lighting, crossing outside crosswalks and impairment are the main factors that lead to a pedestrian bein...g struck by a vehicle. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department offers the following tips for drivers and pedestrians: Drivers Slow down on busy streets and intersections. Always look for pedestrians in intersections. Stop and allow pedestrians to cross. Pedestrians have the right-of-way at all marked or unmarked crosswalks. Stay off the phone and avoid other distracting behaviors such as eating, grooming, or using in-dash touch screens. Do your best to not block crosswalks making a right-hand turn. Keep headlights on at night and be extra careful when pedestrians are harder to see. Pedestrians Obey signs and signals. Try to cross at marked crosswalks, preferably at stop signs or signals where cars expect to see pedestrians. Make eye contact and nod or wave at drivers. A quick nod or wave is an easy way to let a driver know you see them, and they see you. Get in the habit of walking with a flashlight or wearing a reflective vest at night so it is easier for drivers to spot you. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. #sltpd #cityofslt #ots #nationalpedestriansafetymonth #pedestriansafety #trafficsafety

We have had several citizens call regarding suspicious activity by men going door to door asking to buy cars that aren’t listed for sale. The men buy the cars for cash, but the men have asked the sellers to allow them to fill out the DMV paperwork. While it’s not known if these men are involved in a scam, their behavior is similar to known car buying scam methods. In those scams, a person buys a vehicle for cash, but tries to convince the seller to allow the buyer to comple...te the DMV paperwork. If the seller agrees, the scammer never completes the paperwork and does one of several things with the vehicle. The scammer can use the title of that car, which is still in the seller’s name, to obtain a title loan. When they default on that loan, the original seller can be liable for the loan. The scammer might also do shoddy repair work and sell it to an unsuspecting buyer. Since the original owner is still listed as the owner of that vehicle, they could be held liable for civil issues arising from the shoddy work. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department makes the following recommendations if you are selling a vehicle: - Ensure you fill out all paperwork completely, to include filling out the title, before handing it over to the buyer. - Make sure to complete the release of liability form with the DMV. You can use their form or go directly to the CA DMV website and complete it online. - If the buyer is paying in cash, examine the bills carefully. Look to make sure the security features are present. - If the vehicle still has a loan, never agree to have your lender send the title directly to the buyer. If you suspect you’ve been scammed or have anyone approach you as described, please call us at 530-542-6100. #scam #sltpd #cityofslt
