Many of us know Jake Adams, a Redondo Beach resident and long-time swimmer with SCAQ. He and his wife Jackie have long dreamed of leaving the real world behind and sailing around the world. In 2005, in pursuit of their dream, Jake and Jackie purchased a 46’ Liberty 458, a bluewater cruising boat, and christened her Hokule’a, the Polynesian name for the navigational star Arcturus - the Star of Joy or Gladness. Harbored in Redondo, they moved aboard and began cleaning and r...efurbishing their beautiful and very comfortable cruiser, preparing her for the day when their dream would actually become a plan. That plan came together last winter, and on April 6, 2011, Jake, Jackie and Bill Babbington, a close friend, filmmaker, writer and owner of another Liberty 458, departed Redondo Beach Harbor for a five to seven year adventure around the world. Thus far, their journey has taken them to Cabo San Lucas, the Marquesas, the Tuamoto Archipelago, the Society & Cook Islands, Nieu and now Tonga where they are gearing up and awaiting a good weather window for their 7 to 10 day passage to New Zealand, which potentially may be their most challenging passage through the Southern Pacific (and cyclone season) to date. Congratulations to SCAQer Jen Temperley who is having an amazing Tri Season! Jen took 1st in her Age Group and took 2nd overall (behind 2 pros) at The Malibu Tri a few weeks ago & she won Overall Female at the Hermosa Beach Tri this past weekend. WAY TO GO JEN!!!!!

Congratulations to Coach Cameron & his wife Debby who welcomed their beautiful daughter Josephine Kyung Min Hunt on Wednesday, October 5th at 6:25pm. Baby Hunt arrived three weeks early weighing 6lbs 4oz and 18.5 inches. Both mom & baby are home and doing great!
