#WhatWeDoWednesday Last week the CSRM's extraordinary Shops Team completed most of the work on Gondola #6102 including floor paint, bench installation, and wiring for the footlights and outlets. We think you’ll agree, the results are noteworthy! ... The new paint and lettering look sharp! Great job, Team! #whatwedowednesdays #locomotiveshops #keepingthecraftalive #train #restoration #teamwork #greatjobteam #thankyou #history #trainmuseum #historymuseum #collections #ourlivesaremadeofrailroadstories California State Railroad Museum Foundation
#ToyTrainTuesday Let’s take a look at a couple of amazing toy trains from the #CSRM collection. The first photo is the Lionel Electric locomotive No.152, Type I, O Gauge (1917). Seen here sporting dark green on a black frame, red spoke wheels, nickel bell, and headlight, red window trim, brass handrails, gold stamped lettering "152" and "New York Central Lines" on either side of the door. Isn’t it fancy?... Fun Fact: The No. 152 was loosely based on New York Central S-2 locomotive but with a 0-B-0 wheel arrangement. Pictured next is Lionel Electric locomotive 0-B+B-0, No 54, Type II, Standard gauge (1913-1920). This toy train is brass with nickel bells, there is a nickel headlamp on one end, red vent covers, cab door trim, red thick-rimmed spoke wheels, red cast iron pilots, and no markings. What a beauty! Another Fun Fact: This electric locomotive is rareif a magnet sticks to it then it is a reproduction! #tuesdaynewsday #toytrains #funatthemuseum #csrm #collections #funfacts #trainmuseum #historymuseum #ourlivesaremadeofrailroadstories California State Railroad Museum Foundation

It's that time again! You guessed it ... Time for another #ThrowBackThursday! Pictured is an exterior side view of the California Central Traction Company's (CCT Railroad) 50-foot electric car 201 that was built in 1906. CCT Railroad is a Class III short-line railroad that had been providing rail services to the Stockton and Lodi areas since 1905! It is jointly owned by the Union Pacific and BNSF Railway. This photograph is estimated to have been taken between 1906 and 1909.... It’s Wednesday! Time to share what we do around #CSRM! Pictured is restoration specialist, Robert Maciel, welding on the gondola used for excursion train rides. This week’s Intern Spotlight is Kaitlin! She is interning for the #CSRM exhibits team this semester. Let’s check-in and learn more about her and what she’s working on during her internship. Hello, All! My name is Kaitlin Grebe. I am a grad student at Sac State in the Public History program. This is my first semester as an intern for the California State Railroad Museum! I get to work with the amazing exhibits team and create digital activities to help students learn about t...he history of the railroad. My work is focusing on the Chinese Railroad Workers exhibit. When I grow up, I want to be a curator in a history museum, so that I can make the subject fun and engaging for others. We are so incredibly grateful for our interns and the amazing work they are doing! Fantastic job, Kaitlin! #weloveourinterns #tuesdaynewsday #internspotlight #labortaoryoflearning #museumeducation #future #museumprofessionals #curator #railroadmuseum #historymuseum #ourlivesaremadeofrailroadstories California State Railroad Museum Foundation Sacramento State

#FlashbackFriday Pictured is Central Pacific Railroad business car No. 115 "Salt Lake," at the Sacramento Shops in 1912. This wood car was built as a Silver Palace sleeping car in 1869, and then rebuilt in 1887 as a business car and lettered Central Pacific "Buenaventura." In 1912 the car was renamed "Salt Lake" and assigned to the Superintendent of the Salt Lake Division. It was then renamed "San Joaquin" in 1929. Wow, what a history! ...
