Club 280 Goes Globetrotting Again! Our next international Zoom visit was with Bristol Central Speakers located in Bristol, UK, on December 04, 2020. We met another group of truly fascinating people that we would have never met otherwise. Many new friendships were formed. Comments from other participants, like our first joint meeting, were reiterated. We continued to grow and learn with people from all over the world. Next is Australia! Tour the World with South Bay Toastmasters Club 280 How have you kept in contact with your friends, business associates and continued to improve you speaking skills? Lisa Hoegler, EH1, from South Bay Toastmasters, introduced our club to Zoom Video Communications and made this possible. Bill Fiege, MS1, stated that this unique meeting app has allowed our clubs to reconnect weekly with current members who moved away. We miss meeting in person every week and having a nice me...al at Mimi’s Café. We were looking for a silver lining and phenomenon to be thankful for. Zoom has kept our club’s seventy-seven-year streak of learning intact. South Bay Toastmasters in Torrance, California and Naniwa Toastmasters in Osaka, Japan participated in a joint Toastmasters meeting on Friday, October 02, 2020. Yoshiko Sakiyama, ACB, CL, felt that the friendship meeting was a great success and grateful to the members of South Bay Toastmasters club for arranging this opportunity. We were like a group of people dining at the same table, forgetting the difference in nationality. Stuart Mosher, DTM, stated It is a miracle to me that, while we have to keep distance from people nearby due to COVID-19, we can feel a sense of unity with people in the distance. Universal Toastmaster program makes it possible. This includes a past member of South Bay Toastmasters who now lives in Osaka, Japan. It was Yoshiko’s idea for both clubs to meet virtually and have a joint meeting and it was a great success. We met people from the other side of the world and each club’s speakers were able to get helpful and supportive feedback from members of the other club. We all gained from the experience!

Contest Update! Better late than never. I would like to congratulate Evan Georgoulis and Terri Murphy on representing Club 280 in the Area contest. Evan competed in the Evaluation contest and Terri competed in the Humorous speech contest. Evan will be moving on to the Division contest. We would like to thank Terri and Evan for representing our club so well. Thank you for investing your time and energy in competing for us!

We would like to congratulate Kurt Flores on achieving his Competent Communicator designation! Kurt has been a member since September 2014. He has delivered many insightful speeches and has served on our Executive Committee. We look forward to hearing his advanced speeches!
