National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is tomorrow (October 24) and while there's only one Take-Back location in the Russian River watershed (Cloverdale Police Dept.), there are still plenty of places accepting unwanted prescription medications as part of our Safe Meds Disposal Program. Bins like the one below make it easy to dispose of pharmaceuticals ALL YEAR LONG that could otherwise pollute the watershed by being flushed down the drain! Visit the link below for a full list of Safe Meds Disposal locations and what items are being accepted We suggest calling ahead for COVID related hour changes. https://www.rrwatershed.org/project/safe-medicine-disposal/

Street to Creeks - Potentially Harmful Runoff [En Español abajo] Prevent ash and debris from entering the waterways. ... You can help by taking simple steps by placing straw wattles, hay bales, and mulch around burned areas to reduce the chances of ashes and other material from washing into streams. Remember that everything that is outside drains to creeks and streams. Don’t use leaf blowers or hoses to remove ash and debris. Work with your neighbors. Runoff, erosion, and debris flows have no boundaries.

Sonoma Water is proud to partner with a consortium of public and non-profit organizations who released a brief video highlighting efforts in the North Bay to reduce fire fuels and boost the region’s resilience to fire. We hope this video sparks a conversation about how communities can work together to conduct prescribed burns and make communities safer and ecosystems healthier.
