One of our many direct services: We provide Recovery Coaches aka Peer Support Specialists to several various County agencies. One of our partnerships includes our Adult Drug Courts. We’ve assisted many through the process of bring separated from their children due to CPS involvement resulting from substance abuse. Of these our Specialists act as personal cheerleaders, trusted confidants, knowledgeable recovery resource navigators.... It’s always a great feeling when someone you’re walking with overcomes major obstacles. In the past six months we’ve seen dozens achieve abstinence or make huge strides. Several now have a place to live, are employed, have regained parental rights or graduated drug court. Our recent most moving story is seeing one of the men we get to coach get keys to his first place in 30 years. Overcoming obstacles is not easy. Doing it alone is even harder. Together we can! Together we do recover!

For so many substance use, abuse, and ultimately addiction is an indicator of underlying symptoms. Our drugs and alcohol (along with tons of other things we grab once we leave those behind) are all too often a desperate attempt to comfort, cope or escape from something. So, for years the substances are a band-aid, until they're a coffin or a cell. Sadly simply taking away the substances doesn't make the underlying cause go away. This is why so many still struggle with othe...r addictions: Food, sugar, caffeine, niccotine, sex, gambling, love & relationships, codependency, work, money, status, shopping, stuff. The list goes on and on. This is why SRP offers classes that address many of the underlying causes. What an incredible journey some of our Recovery Coaches are on. Over this next two weeks we have the opportunity to absorb some incredible education and information. Here's a thought. I'd love to see what you think. Please share if one of these has been part of your Recovery Journey - these are called "pathways". It's ok if you've had more than one pathway. Without giving definitions or explanations, what do these "pathways" speak to you and your recovery journey? HOPE...
