Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum

Dear Members, We have missed seeing you enjoying the Discovery Museum these last several months! As Santa Barbara County has moved to the Red Tier we are watching and waiting to be sure we continue to stay safe and healthy. While we do not have a tentative reopening date, rest assured we are monitoring things closely to reopen. While we are not quite ready to ready to reopen, we have been quite busy cleaning and improving the museum so we can reopen safely. We have installed ...hand sanitizing stations, implemented additional cleaning protocols, and will adjust how we handle your visits to insure both your enjoyment and appropriate social distancing to keep everyone safe. We have so many new and exciting things to share with you at your next visit. We have completed all the final (and impressive) details to The Vandenberg Launch Experience with our new Celestial Ceiling. The Celestial Ceiling will offer an experience like no other! We cannot wait to show you. Additionally, the new Coastal Pier showcases our beautiful Central Coast and the wildlife we have and adds a new dimension for learning and exploring. As we have been closed these many months, we want to assure you that we will extend all Annual Museum Memberships to correspond to our closure. We are looking forward to welcoming you all back soon!

Happy late Father's Day from Robbie and his dad (Robbie gets confused). They're proud of the halibut they caught off of the upcoming Coastal Pier Exhibit! We hoped everyone had a great weekend and we're looking forward to seeing you again, whenever that may be.

Hi everyone! We put up two videos on our youtube channel today! Here's Patti giving some instruction on how to make "Moonsand". We're still figuring out the art of making great videos but stay tuned, we're making more and we'll keep improving!

The Discovery Museum misses all of our patrons! We hope everyone is staying safe in these uncertain times and finding ways to connect and learn. The museum staff is working hard to prepare for our reopening, but at this time we do not have a specific date. Staff has also been busy developing online education and activity content.
