The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office and the City of San Carlos urge parents and caregivers to remind your teens of the importance of safe driving habits and f...ire safety. Increased complaints regarding reckless teen driving and illegal fireworks have been a constant burden to emergency services during the past several months. Please remind your teen driver about safe driving habits and that driving is a privilege, not a right. The greatest dangers for teen drivers are alcohol consumption, seat belt non-use, distracted driving, speeding, and driving with passengers in the vehicle. Also take time to remind your children of the importance of fire safety, and the serious threats stemming from lighting fireworks. Be aware of what your children are doing when outside of the house and encourage safe behavior in San Carlos parks. For more information on teen driving, please visit: bit.ly/2S6oxVP. For information on park closures in San Carlos, please visit: bit.ly/303sjng. Thank you for helping to keep our community safe!

There are other people on the roads who want to get where they are going safely. Don’t let alcohol or drug impairment cause you to be a risk ...to yourself and others.
