#Cuppingtherapy is not new or exclusively Asian or Islamic practice. Cupping can be found on every contingent spanning over 2000 years ... cupping was used in the United States and Europe . When we switched to science based medicine cupping practice stopped in the western countries. Not because it didn’t help , it stopped because there wasn’t a scientific explanation at the time. Many countries did not have that luxury , cupping is a major form of therapy. Thanks to Michael Phelps in 2016 , cupping therapy has become huge resurgence. #sandiegocupping #acupuncture #Sandiego #acujin

I have the coolest patients , husband and wife who were nice enough to think of my needs. I mentioned it was going to be a long work day and haven’t had time to grab a meal. They went out after their treatment and bought me a salad. This was the sweetest thing to think about my needs ... Thank you so much

I treat quite a few Navy #SEALS at my clinic. These guys are no joke, they really are tough and it shows when I’m treating them. When ever I treat a team member I can’t help to think of my Uncle Leonard ( short blond guy on the far right, front row) he was one of the first #UDT members on team 14 during WWII. 4 teams were responsible for clearing the path for our amphibious forces when they arrived on Iow Jima (yellow beach). He was also one of the first to experiment with scuba equipment. I always think of him with much pride. #SanDiego #Acujin #acupuncture #dryneedling #sportsmedicineacupuncture #sportsmedicalacupuncture

Chinese medicine has been so mistranslated by European translators since the 16 th centuries ... many concepts such as fascia , didn’t exist in the European medical system ... only now with modern understanding of the body and better translation we are seeing that Traditional Chinese Medicine is not so foreign of a concept as we once thought. #Acujin #Acupuncture #San Diego

Another day of #cupping . This is the most requested therapy at #acujin ... we always start with #movingcupsmassage or #dynamiccupping for the first part of the session then end with the last few minutes #staticcupping ... #acupuncture treatments of #triggerpoints have been recorded since the 7 th century Tang Dynasty , China . In the modern era much research have been done by both western medical profession and eastern medical profession. When an acupuncturist is treating trigger points then we call it #triggerpointacupuncture, a non acupuncturist treats trigger points then it is called #dryneedling. Many non acupuncturist have mistakenly falsely have stated Acupuncture does not treat trigger ...points. On contrary we do and our goals are not different from dry needling in purpose or techniques. We have the same goal. Release trigger point, increase range of motion and restore motor function. At #Acujin we are well versed in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Sport medicine to help our patients reduce pain and inflammation and restore optimal muscular function. #sandiegoacupunture #sandiegodryneedling #sportsacupuncture See more

Science behind trigger points: Clinically, myofascial trigger points are easily identified as painful areas in a muscle. These microscopic changes occure in muscle fibers causing them to contract and chronically shorten. This is usually due to the overloading or incorrect loading of the muscle. One theory suggests that oxygen and nutrients that are supplied to the trigger point are constantly compromised. This leads to a sustained contraction, that is unable to resolve itself.... Dr. David Simmons As an acupuncturist we are taught pain is caused by lack of qi(oxygen/nutrients) and blood circulation. Acupuncture/Dry needling treatments releases these trigger point increasing circulation and range of motion and alleviates pain. #acupuncture #dryneedling #sportsmedicalacupuncture #orthopedicneedling #paintherapy #Acujin #sandiego #sandiegoacupuncture #sandiegodryneedling See more

This is an article from the Lincoln star 1973. Dr. Travell is as JFK personal physician for over 10 years. He suffered from major back pain from injuries he obtain as a soldier in WWII She states that DryNeedling uses some of the same principle as #acupuncture in treating pain. Travell was a great pioneer in treating pain. Many allied professions have benefited their patients from her research. #acujin #sandiego #sportsacupunture #dryneedling #sandiegodryneedling #sandiegoacupuncture #paintherapy #myofascialreleasetherapy #DrGeno

Tender points can be used as acupuncture points. Ling Shu, Chapter 13 First mentioned of identifying and treatment of trigger points aka #Ashi in Chinese, was by Sun Si Miao (581-682 C.E). Also nick named King of Medicine. He believed direct needling of sore tender spots (ashi) will immediately eliminates or reduce pain immensely. Palpating #Triggerpoints feel like tight knotted areas in the muscles. They are the cause of most pain, spasms, muscular cramping, referra...l pain and lack of range of motion. Most trigger points can appear anywhere on the body and not necessary located on the traditional primary channel but can be consistently found on the sinew channel (fascial planes). Injuries, repetitive motion such as using a mouse, typing, sitting, standing and walking long periods of time, playing sports, etc Trigger point needling is not new technique, it is very much part of an acupuncture treatment. During trigger point release treatments there are different sensations I look for, twitch response and heavy dull achy feeling. There are 9 traditional needling techniques in Chinese Acupuncture. I use pistoning, needle rotation, fanning, shallow needling between the skin and muscle focusing on the fascia over the trigger point. The needles can either be retained or released after twitch sensation been achieved. Both work great, just depends what the patient wants. Strong stimulation and release can feel sore for a day or 2, but retaining them relaxes the trigger point without soreness after treatment. This patient has chronic Low back pain and palpating his muscles feels like thick hard ropes. He is a jogger and has been suffering with this pain for many years. #Deepneedling #acupuncture is the only thing that brings him immediate relief, which lasts for longer time, sometime weeks or even months. Every Acupuncturist has their own tried and true techniques for treating pain and not all acupuncturist are comfortable with direct needling, but at #Acujin, Dr. Geno is highly experienced and expertise in this type of treatment... #Sandiego #Dryneedlingisacupuncture #sportsacupuncture #orthopedicneedling See more

Thank you @Acupuncturediaries for sharing this post. It has been recently proposed that mechanical signaling through the connective tissue, along with transmission of the matrix deformation through the fascial system network, can explain the therapeutic effect of acupuncture. This model of acupuncture, which involves the transduction of mechanical signals through the connective planes and produces a secondary involvement of neurophysiological mechanism, appears to fit very closely to the ancient model. It is also compatible with the proposed neurophysiological explanation. Source https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6767840/ #acujin #neurofunctionalacupuncture #sandiego #acupunctureworks
